So I finally decided to join, after months and months and months on this site.  I probably read this site more than I read the news.  Anyways, after the military I had always wanted to get my hands on an AR.  My current collect of weapon systems is a Glock 26 ten 4, Rem 700 .30-6, Beneli Nova 12 ga, and recently purchased a 1926 mosin nagant.  I figure I have a good mixture and need an AR to finish my growing collection.  A friend of mine sent me a picture of an AR and he said that he built it.  So that got me thinking about building my own.  Ever since that picture it has been sort of an obsession, research this, research that.  Its one thing after another.  Well after months of research and piecing things together slowly this is what I have so far:

Lower Parts -
PSA Lower
Magpul MOE buttstock
ATI buffer tube package
woa LPK with ALG combat trigger

Upper Parts
aero procession upper

Things I am planning -
Barrel - Rainer arms select series 14.5 or wilson combat recon sr tactical 14.7 or a BCM 14.5
handguards - Fortis rev 14 inch
BCG - ???? probably match with the barrel??
Gas block - probably going with a low profile adjustable gas block
charging handle - BCM or ??
comp/flash hider - ???  I suppose it depends on what barrel I go with?  Maybe YHM or BCM?

So here is what most of my recent research has been geared toward.  I am trying to figure out what compensator or flash hider will work with a 14.5 barrel on the fortis rev 14?  I understand that the Fortis rev is more like 14.8 inches longs, so some have said it depends on what comp is put on there?  Does anyone have any input on this?  Yes I have done my research and have found other people asking the same thing and read through the threads with no definitive answer yet, so just wondering.  If I went with the wilson combat barrel at 14.7 I'm guessing that I wouldn't have this dilemma and can put what ever on there I want?  I guess the last thing that is holding me up on purchasing a barrel is to go with stainless steel or get one that is hammer forged?  I suppose I understand the differences a little bit but more input could help.

Another thing that has had me waiting so long to decide what to do is if I wanted to build a piston system or not.  I know everyone can go back and forth on which is better and why, but I think for my first build I am just gonna stick with DI.  Maybe the second one will be a piston system?  Or maybe a .308 hunting rifle?  Who knows.

So I still have a ways to go on my build but just wanted to introduce myself and the things I have gotten so far.  Any input on what you guys think so far about the things I have already gotten and the things I plan on getting would be appreciated.

Thanks

It's funny, I just finished my first ever build before I even posted here and the similarities are striking... LOL.

I went with a complete upper personally, I wanted it that way.  BUT, my question is are you planning to pin and weld the flash hider or do you plan to submit for the SBR and pay the tax?  You didn't mention either and I was curious.

Ya I plan to pin and wield it to make it legal.  Not really interested in buying the SBR stamp just yet.  Maybe a couple years down the road.

Don't be a pussy, SBR it!
Where in CO? I can personally vouch that Weld and El Paso Counties are easy as shit for title 2

Ares armor has $90 shipped Full auto BCGs right now

Comp and FH are totally different, what do you really want?
BCM mod 4 CH is amazing

barrel wise, i think you have some solid choices, any of which would serve you well for general purpose. If it helps you make a decision, since you mentioned matching the bcg to the barrel (not necessary but its your choice), both raniers and wilson have their bcg on sale

BCM's bcg is much pricier but known as one of the best you can buy (but of course, im sure ranier's and WC's bcg are no slouches either)

edit: I forgot, welcome to the site new guys

I am up in Aurora.  Not sure how hard it is in Arapahoe county.

I just learned about Ares, and now I see that all 3 that have been mentioned are all on sale and around the same price.  Damn decisions!!!

Probably go with just a flash hider over anything.  Do not want a muzzle break, have no need for that.  Unless there is a comp that incorporates FH? A combo of such?

I do like that Charging handle
