I would like to change my Bushmaster 16' barrel ar15/556 to a SPR. The bushmaster as is has a 14" heavy barrel 1&9 twist with the AK break, removable carry handle, and the  a2 stock. I would like the new rifle to drive tacks out to 500yds any further well I have a 308 long range rifle for that. I have a acog 4x32 to mount on it or I may buy another scope. I want to keep this project as cheap as possible but want quality as much as possible. This is what I am considering so far.

Barrels
DPMS mini-sass barrel $225  (and I can get this one today)
wilson SS fluted SPR barrel  (have to wait till back in stock)
White oak barrel 18in SS mid length $269 at Brownells in stock

Gas tubes - My bushmaster has a carbine length gas system
Mid length or rifle length depending on barrel. Any suggestions on which brand etc...

Gas blocks-
DPMS if I go with the DPMS barrel
Now the other barrels opens up the market considerable so suggestions would be great here.

Free float hand guards
I am  open to suggestions here. I would like to keep it as simple, cheap and light as possible. I do not need or want a system that has full length rails. I hate those damn things just like cheese graders on my hands. If you buy cover rails well that makes the hand guards to thick for my liken.

Have I missed anything that I may need? The buffer/spring may be a problem, dont know. Help here would be good.

I can do the work myself except for the head space check.

Or scrap all the above. I could sell the Bushmaster. Add some $$$ and  buy a DPMS priaire rifle 20" barrel, very lite and great reviews for $1049.

Ok guys help me out advice, good, bad and the Ugly.
