I'm building a Dissipator with a 16" barrel, mid-length gas system, Armalite clamp-on A2 FSB, and Magpul MOE rifle-length handguards.
I've seen posts in the past recommending fastening the handguard cap to the FSB utilizing a bolt threaded into the gas tube channel, or making a tube-diameter "rivet" and pinning it in with a gas tube pin.
What size tap / thread pattern is used for this, and can the FSB possibly be used after this for a normal installation, i.e. accept a gas tube?

Yes it can.  Personally I'd find a short screw and tap as little as possible.

You can also find a roll pin that is just a hair too big and use that.  Put the roll pin in a drill where you normally would put a bit in.  Leave 3/4 of it exposed and spin the drill while resting a flat file against the exposed portion of roll pin.  File some of it down and check to see if it just almost fits.

When it does, it should have enough shoulder to hold the cap and small enough to be tapped into the gas tube whole to keep it in place.  Works extremely well on non free float handguards like the Moe, the KAC M5, and stock handguards.

Thanks for the reply Balloo93. Your photo opened my eyes to another solution... Pin a short section of #16 drill rod in place with the gas tube pin, cut off even with the rear of the FSB, and drill and tap the rod for a buttonhead screw to hold the endcap. No need to tap the FSB itself, or grind a rollpin down.

Appreciate the help!!
