Hello all, first like to say that I am enjoying this forum immensely since I joined. Lots of good reads.
Recently I have not been able to get building an AR out of my head. So rather than fight it, Im just going to go with it. I never really got into them before. I owned an oldschool Olympic Arms AR that was alright. Sold it awhile back though. Since then I really haven't kept up to date with brands or the good/bad to watch out for. Spend most of my time feeding my FAL addiction. That being said, I was just hoping for some recommendations on what to buy for parts. Uppers, lowers, everything inbetween. Are there good deals out there I should try to jump on now? What brands should I stay clear of? Etc. Thanks for the help |

Palmetto State Armory has some really good deals going on right now. They have a blemished stripped lower and Blackhawk LPK for like 80, I'm picking them up tomorrow. They hasl have a hammer with brass, nylon, and steel heads with punches for like 15. getting those too.
Right now they have some some great Christmas sales. |
| It's easier if you find what you think you want/need and then come back to us with these questions. There are just far to many options on today's market fonr such a vague question. Find what you seek using what's already been posted and we can give our experiences with those products to help you make your mind, also don't get too caught up in name brands so much as quality materials...............Good luck brother and I look forward to seeing your build/purchase. |

My biggest suggestion is to go big on the rail. The best out there (IMHO) is the Geissele MK2 Mod1 Revision B (or Revision F). This rail doesn't need to be indexed to the upper receiver through the barrel nut. This means you don't have to compromise the torque of the barrel nut and risk damaging your build, just so your gas tube can be fed into the upper. Most free floated hand-guards use the standard barrel nut that comes with your gun. This is a cheap and under thought design that will cause tons of stress. A really BIG problem for someone who builds AR's or is replacing the barrel. Just my two cents.
