I just finished up a JMT build. It went together fairly easy - but not as easy as the videos make it look. This is not my first rodeo, but I seem to have run into an issue that I can't easily identify a fix.

First of all - a JMT needs to be machined in order to finish it. So I could have some issues there... the problem is a very hard trigger pull. Especially after cocking the mechanism, engaging the safety, disengaging safety, and firing.

If I cock the hammer with the trigger pulled back, I get a very firm reset upon slight release, and a firm but acceptable trigger pull.

I haven't actually shot this yet, I'm just function and safety testing.

Any ideas?

Forgot to mention the trigger pack is from PSA one of their p-tac kits.

Have you removed the trigger and hammer to examine the engagement surfaces? Unless it's really , you should be able to improve it with some light polishing.

I've inspected them, but didn't want to start polishing until I explored any other issues.  I don't like having to "polish" trigger parts.

Ptac doesn't have the best reputation. Its PSAs budget crap! You get what you pay for. Polish it or go to Primary arms and pic up a AGL trigger on sale right now for $50.00 and don't buy the PTAC crap anymore. Or spend the money on a SSA trigger.

PTAC - Practical Tactical... cheap, functional, but the trigger is not going to break like glass.   Go get the AGL.

Do you have a metal lower you can put the trigger in and make sure it works correctly? Assuming all your measurements are fine, I'd just buy an ALG and be done with it. I have an ALG QMS with JP yellow springs. it's VERY nice.

My PTAC in my pistol is exactly the same in a PSA blem lower.
It's the motivation I needed to finally get a Geissle

If you had to machine the fire control pocket, my bet is that you didn't cut the pocket deep enough or the pin locations are off enough to make something else contact just before the trigger break.  Whether that's the trigger hitting the pocket floor, or the tail hitting the selector.

Another possibility, check to see if the selector drum or trigger is slightly offset in the lower.  This could cause the tail of the trigger to ride over the full-diameter of the selector, beside the notch, if the selector is put on safe, then it's hung up when you go back to fire.

If anybody is wondering, this is what he's working with:

Good post.  I triple checked the depth of the pocket, but its possible I have something mis-aligned.  Everything fit so well during assembly, I was surprised at the difficulty of the trigger break. I'm thinking the selector is ever so slightly angled and causing the back of the trigger to hit as you described.

It's very hard to see. So I'll take the advice and install into a different lower and check function.

+1

ALG  ACT Trigger is a great trigger for price. (low priced one stage Geissele trigger)

I have a Geissele SSA and it great but quite a bit more expensive.

i'd just like to chime in.. i got a PTAC from PSA an it the worst finish i've ever seen on a trigger. however, after a mirror polish its also one of the lightest (probably due to the amount of material removed) passes all saftey checks and very smooth now. its running in my 300 blackout and no problems after a range visit.

bottom line, polish it up.

+ 2 for the ALG trigger.

You will not find a better single stage trigger in my opinion. Not for $50 anyway.

You can buy the ALG Milspec (QMS) version for a little bit less ($44).  I actually prefer the QMS over the ACT.  Either way you cannot go wrong with the ALG trigger.
