So I am shopping for a bcg for my next build (pistol) and weighing in on my options. I run a BCM on my carbine. I am completely happy with it, but I am wondering if there is another option that is either a) cheaper, or b) better. Right now I'm about 80% for buying another excellent bcg from fellow Wiscinsinites (BCM) at $190.

I was looking at FailZero, but I am not sure their fancy coating is worth the money compared to just lubing the damn rifle.

I am also open to any really cheap options that are verified to not suck.

thoughts?

I've never had a problem with the Spikes BCG's.

AIM Has Them

I've also used a few of the cheapies from PSA

PSA PTAC's

I would say the Spikes carrier is comparable to the BCM (my opinion as I am not an expert) , and it is cheaper. The PTAC's are all 8620 steel and not MPI tested , but it has a chrome lined carrier and the stake job isn't the greatest , but it's staked. I love the BCM BCG's and have a few of them , but there are cheaper options. Having said that I haven't had a Spike's or PTAC fail on me , but if the BCM is in stock that's what I buy.

Have you used one of those? I honestly never thought to look there for a BCG. Going to have to try one.

No I have only used BCM. Just considering trying something different. I looked at the PTAC but decided against it last night when they were on special for $90 with a charging handle.

NiB is a good thing, but it's also overrated in my opinion, especially factoring in cost.  In my experience, cleaning the BCG isn't noticeably easier with the NiB coating, and while it does improve the lubricity of the BCG, I can't see the added cost.

That said, I'm very familiar with the BCGs that are available from Arfcom, and they're a good buy.  Very high quality.

Yea, I would really love to buy one and support the site, but I live by a lake here and it gets super humid in the summer, so parkerizing is a necessity for me.

are you referring to the nickel boron? if so its plenty resistant to corrosion. you can get nitiride instead but my RCA was twice the price. the shadow ops is a steal for the price. you even get a $2 bill.

A TWO DOLLAR BILL!!!

No the arfcom bcg's. I was typing that when you posted. I have added a quote. By the way that link you posted is out of stock. I may have went with it too.

IonBond is extremely corrosion-resistant.  More so than the standard phosphate coating on a BCG.

ION bond is great but it's more $

It is, but I was assuming he was referring to the IonBond, as the other option is phosphate...

This, the ion bond is an excellent choice for an upgrade finish.  The standard finish is parkerizing, so not sure why you seem to indicate that it's not (parkerizing = phosphate).

Yes I understand that Parkerizing = Phosfate. As I said before, I didn't notice the finishes option the first time I looked at the page. It says "Everything but the coating is Mil-Spec." in the description. I assumed the finish was some kind cheap of plating like the other "deal" BCG's I have seen floating around at gunshows.

Hard to beat a BCM BCG. You can make one look pretty but in the end, it's just a BCG. BCM does it right.

anyone with experience with the arfcom ion bond bcg, how would you compare it to a NiB bcg or a chrome bcg?

Here's the one I've used in my builds:

I've got BCG's from BCM, Noveske, Spikes, Arfcom, WMD, and in the past various others. They are all of extremely high quality, but the ones I specifically listed are the ones I like most. With that said, the current $109 from DSG for a spikes is a steal. Likewise the Arfcom BCG is available quite often and is another steal. It even has a C158 BCG. Most people just don't look to see it's even offered, but it's every bit as high quality as the other big names.

Eta: The DSG price expired unfortunately and they are back up now.

Could you link to the DSG deal on the spikes? I'm scouring their site and not finding it. Thanks

It looks like they went back up now. They were at 118 two weeks ago, then 109 last week. Unfortunately they look to have gone back up.

A thread just come out earlier today under the new product threads. tr enabling, they have a nickel teflon coated bcg they just released 179$ (I think). Spikes tactical even put in his 2cents on this product, according to him the Teflon version is not as hard and will not take temperatures exceeding 600 degrees, which isn't a real issue, but spikes also followed up by saying even though it's not as tough as the nib it's still a very good product.

And it is HPT/MPI. Most BCGs aren't HP tested.
