I have three AR-15s in various states of completion. One is completely done, one is a complete A2 lower, and one is a complete lower minus stock. If I'd had the spare cash a few weekends ago for the PSA 20" hammer forged upper, I'd have the second one finished . . .
But when I saw that Brownell's had .308 lowers in stock for prices approaching the realm of sanity, I had to get one. So, here's the current state of my Frankengun: Tactical Machining stripped lower Stag Arms A2 receiver extension CMMG lower parts kit Palmetto State Armory safety Hipertouch 24 trigger DPMS buffer DPMS buffer spring Ergo SureGrip pistol grip It's starting to look like I'm going for a part from every manufacturer to put in this thing. The Tactical Machining lower feels sturdy and has a nice finish. I did have one problem with fitting the bolt catch. The recess behind the magazine well was very tight and the catch wouldn't drop all the way in without pressure. I ended up filing the very edge of the catch so that it would function smoothly. No roll pins used *anywhere* on this lower made the rest of the assembly a breeze. The FCG area seemed more cramped than I was used to, and I ended up having to remove the trigger and hammer to fit the safety selector in. I have a Magpul PRS stock that should arrive on Saturday to finish the lower. I haven't seen a complete upper that had the combination of barrel and receiver I was wanting so far, so I'll be building that as well. Tentative parts list: DPMS complete upper DPMS BCG Black Hole Weaponry 20" bull barrel, fluted Free float handguard (not sure which one yet) Possibly an M11 muzzle brake Might be a while before any progress is made on the upper, but I'll post when it happens. The attached pic was to show a friend the relative size difference with an AR-15 lower. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd244/KorbenD/photo1.jpg |
