Complete newbie to building ARs.

I have a single question.  I've watched all the videos I can stand, but they're all geared to adjustable stocks... I'm putting a ACE ARFX on a Spike's lower.  I know I need the A2 type type, have the buffer and spring, but my ACE Kit didn't come with the tube.  I've asked the supplier for it, as it's pictured with the stock as a kit.  Awaiting an answer.

In the meantime, I have a simple, (for the knowledgeable, but a real "who-dunit" for the neophyte), question:  do I need a castle nut and/or plate behind the receiver?

Nope.  The stock does the work for you.

Can you post a picture of exactly what you have for an ACE stock as well.

Called the supplier this am... after some discussion, he said, "...ooops... I'll get one right out to you."  Checked emails... and sure enough, received UPS notice... scheduled delivery on this Fri.  That's what I call service!

New upper installed on my A4 lower, 6-24x50 MRAD scope mounted for test firing and chronographin' some handloads and M193 ammo.  M193 cooked along at 3163 ave.  From bore-sighting to POA, 4 shots, 2".   Then did 3 more shots into .365" @ 50 yards.

(That should be a green bull over a red... started on right of green and walked 'em over, then fired the 3 at the red bull).  Moved the POA 4 clicks (.10 mil) to the right and carried on by loading up a magazine with 5 rounds of handloads with Nosler ballistic tips over CFE223 in Federal cases.  They did 3119 ave., and went into about .410" at 50 yards...  But that's when I noticed the scope had shifted slightly, turning slightly to the left. maybe as much as 3 or 4 degrees... as that group went left!  But, for a 1st outing, with less than 15 rounds thru it, the barrel is showing immense promise!

But, since I'd left my torx wrench at home, I bagged all that up and went on to other things.  Like sighting in that Windham with a new cheapo scope... How cheap you ask?  Well, the top turret sez clockwise to go "UP"... But, they MUST be using some other frame of reference, as to raise the POI, you have turn the turret counter-clockwise!  Same with the windage adjustment, it indicates clockwise to move "R", but you have to turn it counter-clockwise to move the POI to the right!  Just the opposite of all the other scopes I have indicate!  But, it appears to hold zero, as repeated shots went in about ¾" at 50 yards... good enough for this oldster out of a 16" barrel.  Now if it just holds same with changes in magnification!  Have to check that later... Ain't getting my hopes up tho'!

Now to finish the lower, re-center scope, (why can I never get them tight enough the first time out?), remove the CMC trigger from the A4 and install back to the new lower.  And I gotta leave town for about 10 days!!!

Note for you that're interested, the Hogue free-float forend doesn't come with a sling stud, so that needs drilled and tapped... (unless someone has a better idea)?  Then mount a bi-pod.  But I tell ya, that Hogue forend is rock solid?

So, for comparison purposes, fired that same M193 ammo thru a Windham Weaponry SCR (16") and a Colt Competition (20"), and it did 2953 and 3063 respectively.  All three are .556 NATO chambers.  Didn't have enough of the Nosler handloads to test in all three... but I'd anticipate similar differences.

(edited to fix the pic).

24", it's only marked "R GUNS 1:8 5.56 NATO".  I really wanted a black 22" fluted stainless bull barrel... but it seems NOBODY had one in stock.  I bought it as a complete upper.  Is it ever heavy tho'!

Recev'd new buffer tube last Friday, got myself home and it installed tonite.  Complete with DPMS Tactical Bolt catch... Ain't sure I'll like that, but seems like a good idea.  I kinda hate lookin' for that little tab to lock the bolt back...

Spike's Calico Jack lower, CMC trigger, various lower parts... Magpul MOE+ grip, R-Guns upper w/24" fluted stainless barrel, Vortex 6-24x50 SFP MRAD... another first for me... so far I'm likin' it.  Already thinkin' of replacing trigger and hammer pins with KNS Anti-Rotation pins...

To be a dedicated varmit exterminator and remote hole punching machine.  Got a couple days off, and if the weather cooperates I'll get it sighted in for 100 yards and start familiarizing myself with the scope.

Oh my gawd... the choices for bipods!  And this 11-¼ lb behemoth requires one!  (Still lighter than my Sharps)!
