| I want to finish my last build (that's what we all say. Lol). I wanted it to be a long range tactical rifle. I have a Saturn (I have to double check that though) 20" BB in .223 Wylde and a young manufacturing lightweight BCG (don't know if that would be appropriate or not) left in parts. I also have a new Vltor complete lower but don't want to use it because of the integrated QD connection points in combination with the PRS stock I have. Should I just start from scratch? Should I utilize the BB I have or go longer? If u could build your "dream" long-range rifle, wat components would you use? Thanks for any help. I figured I'd try this route before I buy something off the shelf. Thx for ur help. |

Now that is a good looking rifle.. It's kind of what I had in mind for my build, but ran out of money when I started checking out all the hand guards. I'm playing with what I have now, but will be doings some changes on the front end soon. I'm also learning all about the various scope mounts, I'm setup old school with risers and two piece scope rings. I want a lever removable setup for the scopes. I have more scopes than rifles and have been known to change scopes quite often until I find the right unit that does what I want. I've had four different scopes and three different mounts,on my M1A and still looking for a decent deal on the right mount. I'm not even thinking of putting anything on my M1.
Enjoy. |

What is a long range tactical rifle? That sounds vague to me. Better yet, what do you want the gun to do? Decide exactly what you want and build accordingly. I can't comment on the Youngs LW carrier. For a 20" rifle length I'd have used an ordinary carrier. YMMV. A 20" bull barrel with a 223 Wylde chamber means varmint gun or long range paper puncher. Whatever you build, the BB will make it heavy. But the weight will reduce recoil. This is my long range AR. It will get out to 600 yards. But 0-400 is more realistic. I built it as a walking varmint rifle. AR Performance 16", 223, 1/8 twist, Wylde chamber, heavy barrel with matching bolt. The rest of the upper was built with leftovers from other builds. Everything else is as light as I could make it. It weighs 9.5 pounds soaking wet with a loaded 20rnd mag. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v145/ZekeMenuar1/AR4_zps54462aac.jpg Quoted:

When I think long range 6.5mm, .260, .338, .50 comes to mind, if money was no object I would be basing the build on one of these calibers. |
