Took a pseudo-built AR (PSA complete upper, built lower) out for the second time today and had some strange behavior.

Pulled the trigger, bang

Pulled the trigger and nothing, no click. I could engage and disengage safety and then, bang.

After afew rounds it seemed to clear up.  Moved from generic ammo (forgot what it was, just asked for 'cheap' 50 yard zero stuff) to 62 grain ammo and didn't get the malfunction.

When I stripped it for cleaning I couldn't find the sweet spot that had the hammer partially down but the safety would engage.  Not sure what was going on.  Ideas?

Hammer Follow? ...  Have you stripped the fire control group and re-installed it ( selector, trigger, hammer and disconector) Make sure the springs and everything are installed correctly... Also is the trigger resetting correctly? Manually cycle the BCG with your finger on the trigger you should be able to release the trigger and it click forward

Sounds like the trigger is not resetting.  Are you using a light or modified trigger spring?

Trigger was crisp and seemed to reset fine. Stock trigger and FCG

Edit.  The odd reset was a problem.  But worked itself out.  Wondering where in the mechanics it had issues.

What "sweet spot" are you talking about?  The safety is designed to ONLY work when the hammer is cocked.  In that state, the trigger's tail is low enough to allow the safety to turn, otherwise it obstructs the safety.  That's how it is supposed to work.  If you had something else going on previously, it wasn't right.

trigger spring upside down possibly, so that the trigger wasn't returning on it's own.

Came to post this.
This is the first thing to check.

This happened to me with a CMMG LPK in my LMT lower once; I could manually reset the trigger forward, but it was really sticky.  It worked itself out in about 10-15 rounds, and when I stripped it for inspection I didn't find anything odd, so it must've just been a burr somewhere or something.

When together and at the range, the trigger wasn't resetting but I could toggle the safety and force a reset.  The sweet spot I mean was when I was cleaning it and trying to manually recreate the situation, I couldn't depress the hammer and find a spot where the safety engaged (simulating the toggle)

I don't have the mechanics of the trigger and safety down.  I am thinking it is 'on or off', but there is a detent so I guess there cold be a spot for the toggle.  I am not conceptualizing the issue

Crossing stuff off the list, is it possible it was an ammo issue?  The burr is a good description because the trigger reset got 90% there and hung.  The safety toggle seemed to slip it the last 10%.  Best I can describe it.

Replace or reinstall the disconnector spring.
