I'm working on my first build and almost done. I ran into a little snag with the gas block and rails and was looking for some guidance.

Here's what I have:
Daniel Defense 14.5" .625 stripped barrel
Daniel Defense low profile gas block
Daniel Defense Omega 7.0 rails

The issue I have:

There is a large gap between the gas block and the end of the rails. It almost seems like I am missing a part or something. Can anyone tell me if this is what it's supposed to be like and any other options to put some more "meat" at the end of the rails? I definitely don't like how it looks with my current set up.

Thanks in advance!

Well just by looking at it you have a 14.5" barrel and 7" handguards. Is that a carbine gas system or midlength my pictures are not loading up for some reason.

On a carbine system if you had 7" rails there would be a 1/2" gap, BEFORE you get to the actual gas block.

So you put a 7" rail on a carbine length setup, that is what it is supposed to look like as it would normally butt up against the FSB at that position. Your only option is to install an FSB so it looks a little better or get a longer rail that will cover the gas block, at least 9".

It's a carbine gas system.

Another thing, a bit off subject that is the ugliest gas block I have ever seen in my life.

Yep 1/2" Gap before the actual gas block, what you have is correct and looks "unique"

Is the barrel installed on the receiver yet? The second pic looks like its not. Maybe when you install it on a receiver it will be a little forward. IMO I would sell that carbine handguard and replace it with a mid length. It will hide your low pro gas block and push your front sight out further.Google 14.5" barrel with mid length handguard. Look at the pics and see if you like.

Yeah... not too fond of it either. I'm thinking if I go with the Omega 9.0, I can keep the gas block because it will be inside the rails and not visible. Is this correct?

The mid length handguard would hide it.
It would look something like this:

It is. I just need to put the D-ring on.

That's what I'm thinking unless I can find a different gas block that would butt up against the handguard.

Thanks Raypitre... I like how that looks! I think I'll just return the 7.0 and exchange it for the 9.0.

Thanks everyone for your replies and help!

While I have your attention, I was also having an issue putting the gas tube into the block. Again, a Daniel Defense low profile gas block with an Armalite gas tube. It's seems like it doesn't fit. Are there any tricks to getting it in there? From what I saw online, it should just slide in.

Make sure the pin isn't already in the gas tube first, sometimes companies put the pin installed when they ship them. Yes the tube should slide right in with out fail or grease or anything on a new system also.

Just saying this is my new favorite gas block....even has 2 extra lugs too hold down on your barrel.

Oh I like those Rainier Arms gas blocks. Got to get one for my build.

No problem man. Also if you bought it from midwayusa, they are awesome about returns. You have 60 days, as long as you didn't "alter" the item. I recently returned a vltor cas-v. I didn't know it wouldn't cowitness with an eotech. They took it back no problem. Good luck!

These are the best.
ETA: in less you have a ream( and skills and equipment) to taper a pin. I have done it, but the Rainer low pro is much easier.

I just use the dimple tool and the old style rainer, but now I bought a couple of these.

So should I return the Daniel Defense gas block and get the Rainier? Will the Rainier fit inside the handguards?

[#20]
Yes, and they will look good at the same time and provide better lockdown, at least that is what I would do.

As I read this, you still have a 7" handguard...to completely cover the gas block, you will need longer.  Maybe I missed it, but with a 7" handguard on your gas system length the gas block will stick out.

edit:  I did miss it, sorry.  Yes, return the 7, get the 9, and you are GTG.

Sending the 7 out today to exchange it for the 9 and just ordered the Rainier gas block.

Thanks again for everyone's input!

Every gas tube I have ever installed was a tight fit. I figured this is normal since you don't want any gas escaping. I just use some force and push it in. Once it starts moving it is normally easy.
