Nice sticks!

A good buddy of mine moved to NZ 15 or so years ago. He owns a H-D dealership.

Don't move here!

cheers all

here's another of my AR builds. it started life as a cut down AR-7.

barrels away having a custom suppressor made, as the barrel was only about 5" long it falls under the NZ law requirements for total rifle length.

stock is off a ruger sr-22 its the non collapsible version.

picked up an xm177 style flash suppressor at a gun show today for $125NZD($100US) , one in a million item to find here in NZ. Also assembled delta ring and fitted a new ejection port cover.

That slick-side A-1 upper with the 12.5" barrel looks sweet! Be sure to post pics when she's done.

Do tell. I don't hear of NZ being crime ridden so perhaps I live under a rock and never hear of it. Less guns = less crime right?  Nice rifles.

there is actually very low levels of crimes involving firearms, this doesn't stop the political correctness brigade stamping down on the gun owners.

simply:

any firearm of a sporting/hunting configuration (semi-auto's with 7 round mag max) or shotgun longer than 30" is classed as an "A" category firearm, "A"  requires a basic background search and safe lockable storage for it to get a licence, then you can purchase as many as you want.

the following classes require a 1/4" thick safe

any pistol of 4" barrel or longer with adjustable sights can be classed as a "B" category, this is for pistol club shooting only and there is a limit of 10 on your licence

any firearm can be put on a "C" collectors, this is most common for collectors of large numbers of pistols/ machine-guns  etc. any full auto firearms are required to be on "C" licence. any firearms on a "C" licence are not legally allowed to be used/fired

"D" licence is a dealers licence

"E" licence is for military style semi-automatics of 30" or longer with mag capacity of 8 up

the current problem is they are redefining the rules/requirements for "E" meaning any AR-15's in any configuration are now "E"

the new flash suppressor fitted and the delta ring assembled, also an original sling added for good measure.  the main mission now is to purchased a nice lower to complete the build.

also just purchased an original m7 bayonet that returned to New Zealand with an artilleryman after his tour in vietnam with the 161 Battery

on a side note there are two M16A1 rifles up for auction here in two weeks, i might just have to make a nibble bid on those.

Cool build. Just a small caveat though, the bayonet will probably not fit over the XM flash-hider without modification.

it was more a purchase for the story behind it than to get it to fit to the rifle, it will fit my other AR

Welcome.  I'm a "Southie", but have lived in the States almost all my life... My cousin retired from the RNZN several years back.  I was in the USN, and chased each other around the sea a few times... finally caught up him in San Diego where his ship was havin' some repairs made.  We drank up a few weeks of his "rations"...   I'd have moved back a LONG time ago if it weren't for the firearm restrictions.  Still might...  Grandad was a ANZAC Gallipolli survivor and a long time club shooter.  One of my cousins ended up with his trophies and medals... since sold, much to the rest of the family's anger.

Great builds, I admire your tenacity.

Funny, my cousin was USN.

had a clean up of the front sight to remove flashing and the bayonet lug. Also tracked down a dpms slip over xm177 flash suppressor, its fractionally too long and touches the front sight, but that can be easily fixed on the lathe, this will also bring it down to a better overall length as it looks a little bit too much like an over barrel suppressor for my liking. Just need to clean a few bits up before phosphating.
