Hello AR15.com! After using several different rifle systems I have decided that it is time to own/build an AR 15 to my approval. During the height of the insanity I purchased a lower receiver with hopes of one day building on it and that time has finally come. Rainier Arms has been very helpful as of recently as they have had some great products in stock and I recently ordered a CMT Upper Receiver which came out this week, thanks as well to the In-Stock Threads in keeping me in touch with what is available and where.

So here is where I'm at:
Red Jacket Lower Receiver
CMT Billet Upper Receiver (they fit together perfectly)
Centurion Arms Hammer Forged Midlength 16" 5.56x45 NATO

I have been educating myself from you're threads about the next steps in the process as far as products and techniques. Since I am more or less a beginner in terms of building rifles, these resources have been invaluable and I just wanted to say thank you.

My application for this rifle system will be for training (not military or LE) with the possibility of competitive matches down the road so I am trying to assemble the best parts I can with a long term time frame. My next step will be to complete my lower receiver but I'm waiting to locate a parts kit that suits me as well as feedback on the various Geissele trigger systems. Once I put one in my SCAR I was sure I was going to put one in this system as well. I am also learning more about the different bolt carriers out there and what differentiates one from another so that will take some time before a make a jump on that decision. The rest seems to be a relaxing and informative assembly process.

Again, I have no questions at this time due to my ability to use the 'Search' function, I just wanted to say Hello and Thank You to all those who have helped me in the build process up to this point.

Does the lower have the Red Jacket roll mark and what did it run ya?

The lower receiver does have the Red Jacket roll mark, that was one of my motivations in using that specific lower. I'm a sucker for that kinda stuff I guess. I'll some pics up throughout the week if the time presents itself.

Edit: I believe it was around $120 at my LGS.

Here is an update on my build!
I have not yet assembled all the parts I need but I'm getting a lot closer. Here is what I have gotten since my last post:

Colt LPK
Giessele Super 3 Gun Fire Control
BCM Full Auto Bolt Carrier Group
BCM Ambidextrous Gunfighter Charging Handle
DPMS Forward Assist

I'm still working on a free-float hand guard, I'm looking for a Knights Armament 3.1 or something in that style. Rainier has some nice ones too. I also need the buffer tube assembly and stock components though I haven't really decided which direction I'm going to take with that yet. Also need a low profile gas block and all the other stuff but you guys know...

I was going to order a Spikes ejection port cover from Cheaperthandirt but the shipping was more than the part so I sent them a nice email telling them where to go. I'll order it from Spikes directly.

Pics will be posted when I get a little closer.

Here is a picture of what I have acquired so far, since I know you all like pictures.

The only components I need until I build are:

Handguard - I'm looking for a Knights URX 3.1 13" or something like it. Giessele and Rainier have similar products. LWRC M6 SPR-MOD rail is very nice but I don't believe I can procure one of those or at least if I can I haven't found one anywhere. Any input on this subject would be appreciated.

Stock Assembly - VLTOR EMOD or MAGPUL UBR will be my choice.

Flash Hider/Compensator - AAC Blackout (just incase I ever get a can, which I would rather get than build this rifle but too busy to look into it)

Gas Block Assembly - I will need a low profile block but I literally have no idea about the differences among products so I'll end up just picking one that fits.

KAC URX 3.1. I have the URX 3 on one of mine and I love it. The only thing I dislike about it is that it tends to get hot pretty quick. I had to take off the front sight on mine to allow the gas block to slide past it. I dont think it will be a problem if you go with the 3.1 over the 3 though. Also the URX rails require a special barrel nut tool to torque down the barrel nut properly, I was able to find one on ebay for about $80. FWIW any low pro gas block should work for you.

Well, it has been some time since my last post so I am proud to say that my build is COMPLETE. Well, 95% anyway, and fully functional.

Here is the complete list of the parts I used:
Red Jacket AR-15 Lower Receiver, CMT Upper Receiver, Centurion Arms Hammer Forged-Chrome Lines 16" Light Weight Barrel,
Centurion Arms CMR 14" Rail, Giessele S3G Trigger Group, Magpul UBR stock and Pistol Grip, BCM Full-Auto BCG, BCM Low Profile Gas Block,
Colt LPH, Molon Labe Dust Cover, DPMS Forward Assist, Battle Comp 2.0 Muzzle Device and an EOTECH just for fun.

The only area of trouble I had was the forward assist assembly. I went in from the top and the pin bent before I could get it all the way in.
It's a rookie mistake but as soon as I get another pin I will give it a go. If thats the only mistake I make from here on out its not too bad I'd say.

I had help from a friend who is well versed in building the AR-15 Rifle and I am very appreciative. As well as I am appreciative from all the help I found on the forum.

I have a pic now that I will post with more to come.

The rifle itself it a beauty and the balance is amazing, similar to the balance of a LWRC M6 or a KAC SR-15. Not saying that a newb like me could build such an amazing rifle but thats that it feels like in my hands so I am plenty happy about that!

Time for Pics and Questions.
