Well, guess I have been too busy with other stuff and my thread got purgatoried to the Archive...

Anyways, I have started work on them again, the weather has just been too awesome to sit inside at a mill or with a file, and I worked an ungodly amount of OT in June.

I have 2 of the 3 forgings ready to mill the fire control pocket and finish up.  I bought a 14" US Cutter vinyl cutter, my buddy GeneT has an Etch-O-Matic, and it is time to get these finished up.

As promised, some pictures:

Lowers with some Magpul 20rd mags (ATACs camo, these were the tightest of my sample mags used for test fits while filing, now drop free easily):

Did you mill out the magwell? This is the only part that is preventing me from finishing up my lowers, I have four and no means to the magwell

Drill the corners, mill it out as best you can, then file to finish.

Exactly what flyingillini said:  Drill many, many, many holes.  Chapter 9 of Brandeis' instructions show all the drilling coordinates.

I would advise going very, very slowly drilling the holes.  One of my 3 the bit walked away from center near the bottom.  Not a structural issue, but there is a hole all the way through......

I've been filing away, running Cratex bits with the dremel, and will do some more filing before starting with the sandpaper.  I hope to get them all ready for milling the fire control pocket, so I can move on to etching them and anodizing and be done with them.

Got my first vinyl template cut and tested it on a 2.5" laptop drive caddy.  All of the white areas in the pic is what I will be weeding out of my template for electro etching.
