I'm not sure. Does that mean that I don't have to coat it with anything?

Are you going to do a build, or keep it as an 80%?

I know a guy who has done some 80% builds for himself and he kept them in the white.

They look pretty cool that way if you ask me.

I doubt if a lower in the white will rust. On the other hand, the pins might rust (on a complete build) and eventually contaminate the lower.

I do plan on completing the build into my new upper. What do you mean by white? Mine is the raw aluminum.

Same thing.

Raw with no finish is called "in the white."

No but it does corrode, hence aluminum oxide.  As long as you don't mind the somewhat splotchy finish that this entails, it will be a great finish unto itself.  A lot of people chose to anodize for a more even (and thicker/more durable) finish, with of course a color of their choosing.

You can always do a clear anodizing as well if you like the aluminum color but want a more even appearance.  If you choose to do nothing, depending on the alloy, the metal will almost certainly maintain all of it's structural integrity.

Just a light spray, wipe off. Also use it for cleaner, lube.

Ideal for guns.

You don't know if aluminum rusts?

I'm hoping you're not doing the machining.

Clear anodizing.

While Aluminum won't rust, It will corrode when exposed to salt/saltwater/acidic environments etc.

You can clear coat it or electroplate it in nickel or chrome, etc. (hard chrome would also add durability).

Good luck.
