Hi All,
I was able to finish my lightweight AR build. The upper was from another AR that I had bought but I changed out the handguard to a Clark carbon fiber. I built the lower from an Allstar Tactical forged lower with some white oak armory and some CMMG lower parts. I did the "15 minute trigger job" to the stock CMMG trigger components and I am pretty happy with it. ACE stock (I wrapped it in black paracord, but these pictures are before that), Sierra Precision grip. I don't know the manufacturer of the upper reciever, but it has the same forge marks as the Allstar lower. A keyhole, I think this is Cerra Forge? The barrel is a 16" 1:9 5.56 YHM with diamond fluting, crowned with no threads (NY compliance, but I actually like it). The scope is a Nikon P-223 with the P-series rings. Extended charging handle latch. I built this gun to be as lightweight as possible without going "crazy", and sticking to a pretty tight budget. Total weight including the optic is only 6.3 lbs (without the bipod, that is there for pictures and sighting in but will be removed for field use). I am planning on using this for groundhogs in the summer and coyote/fox in the winter. Just a light, accurate, versatile utility hunter. I really like the scope so far, it is fixed at 3x which is enough for the type of hunting I am planning on. It is also lightweight and sturdy and I like the hand adjustable turrets. Let me know what you guys think! http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm157/EMAstudios/20130508_113337.jpg http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm157/EMAstudios/20130508_112958.jpg http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm157/EMAstudios/20130508_113327.jpg http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm157/EMAstudios/20130508_113311.jpg |

I wrapped it right over the neoprene. It has loosened up slightly and I may redo it. It was actually a pretty difficult job to keep it all tight against the neoprene. As for the barrel, it is Yankee Hill Machine. Normally you could order it here but it is out of stock of course... http://yhm.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17_29_58&products_id=464 I didn't buy the barrel specifically, I bought a used gun and it had this upper with a different float tube on it. That gun basically got split into two projects. The upper went to this gun and the lower went to a JSE Surplus upper that I got for more of a tactical style gun. Sorry I can't be more help but for what its worth the barrel is chrome lined and seems to shoot really well although I haven't shot much but Tula through it yet. Can't wait to try some match ammo though! |
