This may or may not be a noob question. I'm working on building my first AR. I've got all the parts necessary to complete besides CH and handguard goodies. I started out wanted to go with a 12" free float quad rail with flip up front sight. I've changed my mind and decided I want to go with a standard FSB and rear flip ups and use a shorter FF rail.

That is the barrel  I recently purchased. I don't want very much of the barrel showing. My question is I want to put let's say a 9-11" free float rail on there with a FSB. Is that possible to do? Would the only way to know what size in diameter I need the FSB to be is to measure where my rail ends and go from there?

That's a carbine length gas system on that barrel. So, the options are to have the FSB in the normal spot with a cutout rail that goes past it, or you could go with the dissipator look. For that, you'd want a low profile gas block and a rifle length hand guard. The FSB would be toward the end of the barrel, but only used as a sight and not connected to the gas system.
