I'm building my first AR and have never really looked at individual component prices before.

What's a "normal" price for a quality BCG?
4/13/2013 7:45:25 PM EDT
[#1]
$150

I paid $99 just over a year ago, but I would say $135 or so would be fair.

Normal prices can still be had. You just gotta dig around for a while. Took me three months to get all my parts without being gouged.

This is why I'm asking.  I know they can be had... just wasn't sure what price to jump on.

Just wait it out a little longer, the only reason prices are still high is because people won't stop overpaying. PSAs BCGs come in stock about every other week it seems

I picked up 2 Young Manufacturing BCG's for $140 each pre panic.

I remember buying LMT FA BCGs for $116 from DSG a year ago.

Do you remember how much they are?  I looked earlier today and everything was marked OOS.

Yeah but if you ordered that you'd have to wait 20 weeks before you got it. I cancelled mine.

The only problem with RGUNS is waiting for it to ship and fairly dismal customer service.  I understand they are swamped but a polite update shouldn't be too difficult. So keep that in mind when you purchase - be willing to wait until it shows.

RGUNS.net doesn't count, don't do it they are months behind and terrible to deal with. First hand experience talking.

Windham weaponry shows out of stock but allowing orders, I clicked the out of stock button and ordered anyway and had bcg in less than two weeks.

Also the PSA is good, and as stated comes in stock every other day. Or follow the in stock bolt carrier thread on this site... just a couple threads down from the one you just started Lol

Try here:

~135

I've ordered one I think they get back ordered but I got it within a month and it looked good.  Haven't tried it yet though but supposedly theirs are decent.

In spite of RGUNS claim of "In Stock" I am still waiting on the one I ordered back in January.  At this point I'm not even going to cancel, if one actually shows up I'll consider it a happy surprise,.

Just ordered a BCG from Windham for $149. ($135 +$14 shipping.)

Yep, and $110 shipped for Spikes.  PSA's have gone up drastically so I don't bother with them any more.  I know LMT has raised MSRP so I expect the next batch of BCG's to be a little higher.

DD's were the expensive ones at ~$130. Well, and Bravo's. Somewhere between $100 and $130 was the norm.

Well,

I haven't seen the prices up too much compared to pre "Kenyon" prices...

But, I usually buy fail zero nibo groups...so they have always been a bit high anyhow...

$125 for RRA BCG's...you could find unnamed ones for about $100 also.

Ive had great experience with PSA and got orders shipped and recieved before their expected ship times. I can see their price jump but for a company that has BCG's in several times a week and $180 is not too terrible compared to others asking $250+ for the same thing. I still have not seen a company that has not been effected in any what way by Newtown. I would rather have a part soon (month wait or less) with a little jump in price than just assume in a few months everything will come back down to pre panic prices. Gotta pay to play and at least in this aspect all of Obama's hope and change is moving forward.

I paid $79,$89 or $99 for my PSA BCGs, when they were on sale.

I think I paid $125 for a pair of "full price" BCM BCGs.

Those purchases were all last spring / summer.

I've still got the pair of PSAs, and I'll do without for a while. No fucking way I'm paying $200 for a BCG.  'cept for the 9mm builds, I guess.  Lower volume = expected higher pricing on those.

Pre panic I bought Colt (used) FA BCG for $100, LMT and Stag FA (new) for $130. My Smith Enterprises M16 BCG I picked up for $110. The only one that cost me was my Smith Enterprises FA BCG that is hard chromed, that set me back around $250. Yes both of my SE are real with the SE in the shield and not "D" marked stuff that was sold by others.

I think if you hunt/wait, you will be able to find a BCG at a realistic price. There is still the panic mentality so prices are high but they will come down like always. How much will they come down to, who knows. I would never pay the $300+ price tags I have seen in the very recent past.

I bought one of the PSA's for $89, DD for $131, LMT for $125 and $116, Spikes for $109 and $119.

Alright then, well how about you tell him a better suggestion of where to get a bolt carrier group TODAY that is GTG?

Why buy one today when you can get on a back order list and pick one up for $60 cheaper later.  Heck, I recently sold a member one of my LMT carriers for $180.  I'm patient and I can wait a bit to get a replacement.  I get on the email lists for when the parts I want come back in stock.  I'll buy them at regular prices or wait until they are back to regular prices.  If you have to have one today then get the PSA, but your wasting money.  On the other hand its your money to waste and an extra $60 is just a night out at a decent restaurant.

The BCG from PSA is also a M16 carrier that is chrome lined, staked, etc.  So right now I don't think $180 is too bad.

[#35]
Doesn't really matter if you want one now current price is about $200 +/- $30 as a general rule.
What they will be latter is unknown I'd like to think they will be back around $100 again but I'm to holding my breath.

Personally I have only bought one from BCM at $225 and only because I needed one.
I agree with one of the above posters that they will not go down till people stop paying to much for them but what can you do if its the las part you need.

Anyway good luck I think there is possibility that in a few more months things could get better It just depends on our politicians

Well I just got a RRA SA for $130, took 10 days but that's not too bad (sometimes you just need to call instead of being lazy and just looking at a web page.). Also just picked up a LMT FA carrier from my LGS for $66 yesterday.

$180 for PSA is gouging plane and simple. I wouldn't pay $100 for the ones they have been sending out lately.
