Hey yall, I am looking for a Hand Guard for my Frankenstein AR. I have the Carbine length barrel with the fixed front sight and have been looking at these options. I am open to suggestions and any advice on different Brands and what not. I like a radical or tactical look and want it to have a nice look and quality. Here is what I am looking at right now:

Adams

Samson

I had a friend get some rail that came up over the sides of the front sight and it looks awesome, just would hate to copy his build haha. Any other options for a tactical look? Also what is yalls opinions on these two? I definitely want a free float. And I would like to keep weight down somewhat.

Thanks!

Ethan

Another one to look at is Centurion.  They make a great cut-out for your FSB.  A little expensive but light as a feather.  You can find them at BCM, and you can look in the EE as well.

+1 to for Centurion. If I'm not mistaken both the Adams and Samson you have pictured will run you over 300 bones, and neither will match the quality of a Centurion.

Remove front sight base, replace with low profile gas block, cover with midlength or rifle length handguard.

Word.  I think the Fortis Rev looks cool, and it's light.

I just picked up a 10" Seekins BAR for the large inside diameter.  I was worried about how fat it was gonna be.  It is kind of a big bitch, but it feels fantastic with an angled foregrip.  Like, perfect.  But I have pretty big hands.

Same mounting system as the Centurion......good to go. Use Noveske NSR panels on the slots. It's light as hell. 12" has been out, 14" was just released last night, a 12" FSB version and a 9" version is coming next.

Ya I thought about removing the front sight for a low pro gas block, but I am still not sure If I want to do that or not. I have kind of taken a liking to it. So the Centurion's are less expensive and hold up better than the Adams or Samson?

If you want radical/tactical look, by all means one of the prior suggestions will work for you.  What kind of stuff do you plan on hanging on the rails?  How much fore end weight are you willing to put up with?  Do you desire a freefloating type handguard?  These are a few of questions you should seriously ponder before you jump in and get a (relatively) permanent change to your rifle.

When I built my first rifle, I was going to go your route until I gave thought to my main concern- weight.  I then opted for the Magpul handguards, giving me the light weight and the ability to install rail sections for any junk I wanted to hang off of it.  Of course, YMMV.

Just a couple of thoughts.

John

(ETA- OP: I reread your post re: floating handguard, but still give it some thought!)

The fortis rev is not even lighter than the Troy Battlerails. If you look them both up by the homepages....the fortis rev is .4oz heavier....I mean it looks cool, but as far as being light....that is not in comparison to some.

I think the Fortis is too open for me. I will definitely look into the Troys. I plan on a fore grip (angled or vertical), Light mount as well will be on there. Dont want to make it too cluttered though.
