I'm Carl, been an outside reader for quite awhile.
Finally decided to upgrade my A2, which I've had for a decade or so. What I have is the standard carry handle model. I've had the flat top to convert, for about as long as I've had the rifle. What I am looking for is advice, pros/cons on your favorite(s). As I tell the grand kids, seek advice/info, then make your decision. Considering all the knowledgeable people here, where better to learn what I need to know. Up front, thanks for all your input. Feel free to state "why" you feel product a, b or c, is superior to products d, e or f. Here go's. Three areas of advice. Converting to flat top. Going to keep the original 20" barrel and standard front sight post. Info needed. 1. Rear flip up sight, I know there are many available. What version(s) or brand would be most compatible for use with the std frt sight post. 2. Also with this conversion is scope and quick mount/dismount set up considerations. Long range is not my intent, I have a larger caliber rifle that gets way out there. This will be a more for close and moderate/mid range. a. Quality scope, not low end and not necessarily a real high end. b. Mount, quality with very good repeatability. 3. Hand guard. Is there a version of the rail hand guard that will drop into the existing configuration. Keeping in mind I am (presently) keeping the 20" barrel.
Freedom has a price. Again, Thanks....carl |
| You may want to consider changing out the front sight for just a gas block and flip up front sight or a combination if you are wanting to go with a scope. You could still go with drop in handguards, or use a set of Troy free-floats that use the original barrel nut so you aren't changing out much. |
