OK, so I'm trying to take the free float tube off my Grendel Overwatch upper, and I've tried about everything I can think of, yet this bitch won't budge. I'm not really enamored with the tube itself, so I don't give a shit if it gets marred up (too late) but I would like to keep it in one piece. I've been going at this thing with a strap wrench for about 15 minutes, applying heat, wrenching the shit out of it, even trying channel lock pliers. By that time I had a serious case of the ass and dicked up the outside of the tube, so I decided to step away, get it out of the vise, take the receiver block out, go upstairs, and post.

I'd rather cut this bitch off though than spend $50 paying ADCO to take the barrel off (as I can save that towards nice a nice railed handguard), but I just can't believe this damn thing won't come off or budge in the least.

Help, please...

Does it have a set screw you're overlooking?

I'm assuming the handguard is glued to the barrel nut on this, is that correct? If so, make sure you're using the strap wrench near the receiver where the barrel nut is. I can't imagine channel locks would work, you need more muscle than what they will provide. A bigger strap wrench might work, though something like this might be needed:

Yeah, it's either glued or on with loctite or something else that's not fun to work with. I was using the strap wrench right up where it meets the barrel nut but no dice. then I thought I'd just pop the gas block off and see if the barrel nut might budge but the gas block won't come off either. The gas blocks AA puts on the Grendels are truly "blocks" and that bitch won't budge. At this point I think I'm just going to concede and send the upper in before I dick something else up...

Thanks for the feedback though.
