Alright, I think I went about this the right way. I have done a fair amount of research on here and after pushing my brain back into my ears I would now like some opinions. I am going to build an AR from the ground up using a higher end forged upper and lower and would like some opinions from operators who have EXPERIENCE with these products (fit, finish, you know,QUALITY!).

Upper / Lower: Mega Arms, Umbrella, Noveske, Seekins, Rainier Arms
Barrel: Daniel Defense, BCM, Centurion, Noveske, Rainier Arms

I would also like some feedback the B5 SOPMOD stocks. I have read about them sticking and I've read about them being the Holy Grail.

I come from a background where rep is everything and any input would be greatly appreciated.

Mega arms matched billet upper and lower would be my vote the fit and finish is great or the noveske. But can't go wrong with really any that you listed. I love my Daniel defense chf 14.5 barrel, but all you have listed are good to go. I would go all noveske I think if I had the Money. Good luck with the build I have no experience with the sopmod stock but have heard great things also.

Thank you. I actually was looking at the Daniel Defense CHF 16". As soon as everyone quits freaking out and a fella can buy one. Also been looking at the Rainier Arms Lower because of compatibility with 45 degree selector.

I live fairly close to B5 in Ohio, I may see if I can schedule a visit to their facilities and see them for myself.

Rainier lowers are made by Mega and have nice deep black anodizing

Ok,

All the parts are gtg...

So, the question is more personal preference..

I run stag, Psa, rainear, etc...

Now, the choice is what logo you want...you could even get an 80% and put on your own roll mark...

I like what I am used to...now roll marks aren't a big deal to me...but, I still need good quality...

It's not worth my money to buy an expensive lower...the spikes, Psa, or even surplus lowers are all gtg...

The detail is in your building and doing a good job at hand fitting all the parts...

I test fit everything...and hane polish all mating surfaces possible...including the $20 trigger job stuff...

Now, any of the mfs you mentioned make gtg parts, I have parts from everyone of them here...

My issue is getting double the money for a name isn't worth it...

Neither is a warranty...I don't buy for a warranty...even if they warranty a part...there is no guarantee that it will work when needed...

Yes, an ar can make a life or death decision ... Even if the dam thing blows up...

Anyhow,

Buy decent parts from gtg mfg and test and run the components hard...see what falls out...

My 2 cents
Bret

I may have misused the "operator" terminology in my post here. I was not trying to alienate anyone, just trying to weed out those who actually have trigger time with the system in "real world" environments. By real world I mean just that, REAL WORLD. Not some perceived zombie invasion or 8 hour XBOX run. My personal experiences have stemmed from 20 years of using milspec systems and was wanting to learn more about the other companies that are out there. I've ran through your Rock Rivers, Spikes, Olympics, and yes, even DPMS (yuck!) on the civilian side. I've have good and bad in all of them. I also would to clarify that I am wanting to build this, not just put together a lower and and slap on an assembled upper. That is why I am asking.

I'm on the downhill side of a 20 year military career and although I may sit behind a desk now, that wasn't always the case. I do have a little experience in "ordnance delivery" and was just asking some opinions. I could have just said hell with it and called Knight's like we used to the first time I was on active duty and ordered a system that put together by someone else and didn't have my personal touch.

I operated today.

upper- mega billet
lower- megs billet

bolt- young nm-stake it
buffer- st-t2
trigger- sd3g
sights- troy
rail- dd, noveske, whatever
stock- whatever

that should keep you busy for a bit

Thank you. Looking at Mega and Noveske uppers and lowers as we speak. Leaning toward Daniel Defense or Noveske for the barrel as well. Just looked at the MagPul ACS stock.
