NOOB here....bought a complete assembled AR chrome bolt from Fulton Armory and the Bolt Carrier Key was not staked.

My NOOB question is what do you use to stake it and do you have any tips?

1/4 inch punch and hit with a hammer takes care of it, no reason to buy a special tool

I have used a center punch with the sharp point rounded off to make a neat indention. Just took a bit off the tip of the center punch.

Ignore the chisel stake.
This gas key shows the Colt Field Staking pattern.

Apparently the owner upgraded the weak chisel stake with the Colt Field Staking method as shown in the Tech Manual.

Hammering on a hardened screw is not advisable.

Quoted:
Hammering on a hardened screw is not advisable.

Correct.
That's why you want to concentrate the punch on the softer key and displace material toward the bolt as shown in the pic.
