As mentioned in the JD Machine thread, here are pictures of my lowers received yesterday.
Ordered 12/20, order #298##
I had little contact with JDM, tried by phone / email multiple times, had a couple "shipping soon" emails, was ready to cancel the order when I got shipping notice.  Have yet to assemble the lowers, hoping they are in spec.

What would you all do with these given the current "situation" - normally I would ask for a replacement, but for now I'm happy to have something and would rather not return them and wait 6+ months for more lowers.

First two are on one lower:

This is on the second lower;  it is actually a defect in the metal, not just the finish.  There are several other similar minor defects:

I have had a bad experience with them once before. Not craftsman/quality wise but customer service wise.

I ordered a upper/lower set with custom serial number. they sent it with the wrong serial number and tried to get me "to just accept" the wrong serial number. I could not get through to them. finally when my FFL told them to fix it or they, as a shop, would stop ordering from them they finally fixed it. 6 months later

I was also charged 20$ for cable locks x 2 which were not included.

I doubt fixing any of this is worth the hassle and time that it would require.  I've had a great experience with several other vendors on the site (Rainier, Primary Arms, most notably), and will take my business elsewhere from now on.

You can sell them on EE and still make a profit.

That big gouge looks like shit. I'd call my credit card company and do a charge-back on the $20. I've heard of at least one other person who was shorted their cables. I wouldn't even deal with JD about it.

I read that the reason they charge for the cable locks is because its required when selling a firearm in California. To me, them not including them sounds like a law being broken. Wonder what the local California ATF would think about that.

Required when selling to a person inside CA? Or required for all sales because they, the manufacturer, are located there? It's bad enough people outside CA are forced to buy the locks. But then not receive them? Talk about adding insult to injury. I really feel for the OP. He waits all this time and finally gets a banged up POS, minus $20 worth of goods he paid for. Sigh..

ETA - Hopefully the lowers are within spec!

Cosmetics aside, at least the first one appears to be in spec.

Considering this is my first lower build ever, it went together fine (aside from my newbie mistakes).  I put together the most banged up one first, as I expected to ding it further myself.  PSA lower parts kit.

Correct me if I'm wrong but JD should be in spec because they are the actual manufacturers of many of the popular companies people buy from.  They also have several government contracts if I'm not mistaken.

I have a similar flaw on my forged Seekins, but not nearly as bad. Sucks they put products out like this, sucks even worse that their customer support is clogged up with "where's my order" instead of helping someone like you who has a legitimate problem with their product.

Given the current environment I decided to just build them and forget about the cosmetic crap.
Both are in spec otherwise.

It would do wonders for their business and reputation if JD Machine would monitor sites like this and be proactive about addressing issues.  In 2013, it ain't that hard.  As much trouble as I had getting in touch with them re: the order, I'm not even going to try and pursue this.

Update.

I posted in another thread about the selector switch not lining up in one of the two lowers, and being about 15 degrees off vertical / horizontal when in safe/fire positions.

I thought the selector was out of spec.  Tried another selector ... same deal.

On closer examination, the lower is out of spec.  The hole for the detent and spring is off center in the bottom of the hole for the selector switch.  I tried to get a picture but didn't have anything but the iPhone out in the shop.

So, in addition to the above blemishes, one of the lowers is out of spec.

I'm going to email them and see if they'll make any of this right.

I just had that talk with a friend of mine. The vendors that stand out with fair pricing and good customer service will certainly be remembered when all this has settled down. In my experience, Brownells, Bravo Co., Palmetto State, Red X, and Stag have provided everything I have asked for. I am hooked and will continue to build as long as I find enjoyment.
