This is my first AR.  I received my PSA MOE Lower Build Kit yesterday and put it together tonight with some help from a more experienced friend.  It seemed to go together fairly easy until I put the buffer tube assembly in the stock.  It is extremely tight and I can barely move it.  I read something about a mil vs. commercial stock but don't know if this is the problem.  It seems to work correctly if I put extreme force into it but I figure that is not normal.

This is the kit that I purchased.

PSA MOE Lower Build Kit

Any thoughts on what I can or should do.  All help is appreciated.

Thanks.

1. What type of lower receiver?
2. What is tight? The buffer moving inside the tube extension? or When you screwed the tube extension to the lower receiver.

Check the PSA industry page. There are more people with complaints like yours. they might have some info in their threads over there. I have my build kit I got a couple days ago after waiting almost a month and I have not put it together yet. But all this fitment trouble talk has me concerned

EDIT...

The buffer tube assembly is tight into the stock.  I can't move the stock back and forth freely.  I have a collapsible stock that does not collapse (or extend for that matter).

It is an Essential Arms AR-15 Lower.  I had zero problems with everything else and it went together extremely easy.

I'll check their page.

Thanks.

Is your extension tube slanted at the end? That would be a commercial grade here are the specs from MOE.

That's a great picture.  I didn't really pay attention to it prior to putting it in.  I'll try to work on getting the stock off and check for the slant.  It is such a small size difference but enough to make it difficult to work with.

Thanks.

Check the stock too, if it has that thick butt pad its commercial, no thickness is milspec.

NVM...thought I was the first to post.

Issue looks covered.

I just put my first lower together tonight with a psa Moe build kit and the stock was a tight fit. At first it would only go on one notch or so. So then instead of using the lever on the stock I pulled down near the pin that goes across which is actuated by the lever. This allowed the catch pin inside the stock a bit more and the stock slid right on.

I have had a tight fit with the buffer tube and butt stock in the past. Take a q-tip, soak the end in CLP or your favorite lubricant, and give the buffer tube a good rub. By no means should it be dripping - you should merely note the presence of lubricant on the tube.

My experience has been that the butt stock moves much more freely afterwards and the sticking goes away. YMMV.

I too have the moe build kit and the stock is tight on the tube but I checked it against my DPMS which is comercial and the moe doesnt fit it to smll. I can slide my stock but its snug. I likr it there is no play at all in my stock

Guys, the picture I posted just take a dial caliper and measure what you have versus the spec sheet.

I got a PSA milspec buffer tube to replace a damaged commercial tube.  I'd read that milspec tubes were smaller than commercial and would cause some slop in the stock as a result.  I figured I'd just deal with it until I get around to replacing the stock.  To my surprise, it was exceptionally tight.  Maybe I had a commercial tube and milspec stock originally.  Either way, it loosened up with a little lube.

Just built the same kit 2 days ago. It was tight at first, but as you use it, it got easier. No issues with mine.

Mine is tight also.   I can move it, but it takes some force.

Different stock, but similar issue.  i bought a used B5 Sopmod and the fit was VERY tight.  I took a half round file and filed the inside of the stock a little at a time until it fit snug.

Honestly the MOE does not have the friction lock.  If I had one I would be pleased as hell that it was tight and I would use a file, rasp, or dowel rod with sand paper wrapped around it to remove AS LITTLE as possible to get a snug fit.  That would be like getting the secure non rattle of the CTR at the price of a MOE.

You do have to pull that pin to get the stock onto the tube itself. Is that the issue OP?

I had the exact same issue last week.  I put Rem-oil on the threads and a strap wrench on the receiver extension (buffer tube).  Actually used 2 strap wrenches.  One in either direction.  I would tighten a quarter turn, then back off a quarter turn, then tighten a half turn, then back off some, etc.  As I tightened, I would then back off a bit.   I only needed to go about a turn and a half further after it got real tight until I captured the buffer retaining pin.  It was much tighter than any I have done before, but it worked.  Good luck.

I had the same problem and just filed out the inside of the stock a little at a time till it loosened up how I liked it.
