I am wanting  to do a new build I already have a lower so that's not a problem. I have a 204 Ruger with a 24" bull barrel and a 6.5 Grendel with a 24" bull barrel and I have a 16" carbine. I want to build a lighter weight coyote/squirrel gun and just a fun shooter in 223/5.56. I'm just can't decide on a 18" or 20" barrel. Here's the 2 barrels or should I get a different brand?

I have a White Oak 18" SPR barrel and I'm very happy with it.  It's heavier than a typical AR barrel, but not as heavy as a bull barrel.

I'll look into that I don't mind a little bit of weight I just have two bull barrel rifles and they are just to heavy to hike around with and it's not possible to shoot off hand if you happen to need a quick shot. I wonder what kind of wait white oak has?

White oak is at 12-16 weeks, I've found them to overestimate the wait. Probably 14 weeks. They are well priced and extremely well made.

And the spr barrels there are light compared to other 18"

Okay thank also what length gas system are you running  mid or rifle and what muzzle break? I think I'm just going to back order on brownells and when it comes it comes I'm in no hurry.

I have a 16" that I put a scope on and it's a good shooter but I want a little bit longer barrel for those long squirrels.

I have rifle length gas and a Levang comp, but I'm thinking of going with a Miculek since I also use this rifle for 3 gun.  I have a couple different optics in QD mounts that I swap out depending if I'm using it for 3 gun or prairie dogs / target work.

I originally wanted a longer barrel for a coyote gun I built last fall. I ended up with a 16in because of weight and couldn't find any solid evidence a longer barrel would be more accurate.  I got the Select barrel from Rainier Arms and it is great.  PSA had pencil barrels in stock yesterday; great way to keep weight down.

Okay thanks for the help and I made the mistake of looking in the mk12 spr pic thread and now I have to have build one. I'm going to back order the white oak 18" rifle length right now and start hunting a bcg I will probably find one about the time my barrel gets here. I am not giving into these crazy prices! And I already have a 16" so I want to do something a little different and the gain in velocity is decent from 16 to 18" which should help with those long varmints. Anyone try the pri quiet muzzle brake? I know quiet and muzzle brake don't go together but I don't want this thing to loud since it will be a hunting rifle and I don't wear ear plugs while coyote calling in case they start talking back or sneak up on me. My 16" 5.56 will make your ears ring for a day buy my 204 Ruger is not bad at all probable the 24" barrel and no brake.

Check out howard leight ear pro. They make a set of powered earmuffs for $50. Whole lot better than going deaf. Amplifies quiet sounds and shuts off gunshots. When your ears ring, your ear cells are dying and they don't grow back.

THIS

If I'm using a gun that doesn't have a can I always hunt with electronic ear protection.  Even one shot unprotected will cause permanent hearing loss.  I know too many deaf old shooters, I don't want to end up like them.
