I just picked up a lmt 14.5" carbine upper. While trying to switch out the handguards with a free float rail i ran into a problem with the fsb. I removed the pins just fine but the fsb will not budge. I tried putting a piece of wood against the fsb and driving it off with a hammer and it didnt budge. Is this pressed on? I have never had a fsb that didnt pull right off fairly easy. There was also some tan colored goop dried around the fsb when i bought it, it wasnt anywhere else.

Put some kroil or PB blaster around the FSB.  If it's not parked under the FSB then it may just have some rust on it and the inside of the FSB.

Well,

I've had to press quite a few of them buggers off...

I have a hydraulic press which makes it easier...

But a few wouldn't budge with a mallet...

After cleaning and oiling is done...next is heat...

I've when at a friends house resorted to a bit of heat then running ice water on the bore...actually Down it...

Thing came off easy...but that's after the above two...and don't get things too hot...
