I just had my barrel installed by a local shop. I dont think they put any grease on the receiver threads. Atleast, I cannot see any from the back side of the barrel nut. I would assume any extra grease would have been pushed out the back of the nut.
Will it hurt my receiver and/or barrel with a lack of grease on the threads? |

Well, I did take it to them mocked up and told them I just need the barrel nut and castle nut tightened. Im not sure if he took it back off and greased it or what. I tried calling yesterday, but the smith wasnt there. So Im gonna try calling again. If he didn't grease it, it's not the end of the world. At least you would have found out that he is not AR competent without much damage. If he used grease, there should be some grease residue close to the barrel nut even if he did wipe down. Moly grease is dark grey so it may be hard to see. Don't ask him if he greased it....instead ask him "what kind of grease did you use ?" Thanks for the advice. I did ask what kind of grease he would have used, and he just said "the grease we have". Not very confident in his answer. The back side of the barrel nut is dry, I can see no residue what so ever, so I think its safe to say he did not grease the nut.
I will post in the Hometown and see if anyone can help me out. Thanks again. |
