So here is the deal, I think i picked the WORST time to try and do this but im going to do it.
I have 3 lowers payed for but that is all I am waiting on a P2P to pick them up. I am looking for a 20 inch barrel idk about the contours, i am looking for either 1/7 or 1/8 and no FSB I am hopefully going to have it Cyrogenicly frozen, and i work for a metal plating company do im having it plated there Also i am looking for a quad rail handguard. Do any of you know about piston systems? I want to put one on here but i want a specific style of hand guard. Are there any out there that would work? I am also looking for a good upper, i am stripping all of the Hard coating off and re-anodizing them in a different color. Here is a picture of what i want to build. http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&tbo=d&biw=1366&bih=667&tbm=isch&tbnid=yD1cg5U7zzjPvM:&imgrefurl=http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php%3Ft%3D640431%26page%3D7&docid=djslCaDrGgfo3M&imgurl=http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk62/pacrimguru/AR-15%252520Golden%252520Rod/P1130754.jpg&w=1024&h=576&ei=JvHdUJbxLY-EqQGb7oH4Ag&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=234&vpy=137&dur=480&hovh=168&hovw=300&tx=116&ty=104&sig=116450236009672965144&page=1&tbnh=133&tbnw=242&start=0&ndsp=27&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0,i:94 |

Please don't take this as me being rude, I am not trying to be at all. I was recently in the same boat as you (new to black rifles).
The line of questions that you have make me feel that you haven't really read up much on AR's, and you might want to do some reading before you start building one. DI vs Gas Piston: just go with DI. Its cheaper, lighter, less moving parts 1/8 barrels are the black sheep. I only know of LaRue who makes them, and they don't (or didn't used to anyhow) sell just barrels. I wouldn't go plating things and what not right off the bat. Function before fashion. My suggestions: In the current state of panic and uncernanty, buy whatever you can find that is the best quality for the best price. Rather than piecing something together, just get a complete upper that has the barrel specs and hand guard that you want. Things are too expensive at this time to start trying to experiment with colors and ovens and so on. Also, unless you have a GRIP of cash laying around, build one rifle now, sell the other two lowers to make some cash back. I have seen complete uppers going for $2k+ as of lately. Hope all this helps! |
