Just got an ATI free float tube and there is about a 3/4 inch gap between the front of the tube and the front sight post. Not sure if there is anything I can do about it. I could split the difference but I don't want a gap between the tube and the upper. Any suggestions?

I don't believe there is anything you can do about.  You might be able to sell your free float on the EE and purchase one that is of the correct length.

Silicon, duct tape, high temp bbq paint, and cardboard should take care of the gap nicely

If it were me, I would find a new rail, tube, etc or just go back to plastic handguards.

This was My solution. Filled the gap with a spare barrel nut I had. It should keep me from burning My fingers and act as a heat sink.

Kinda defeats the whole purpose of free floating if it's touching the barrel at all.

It's not touching the barrel.
