I'm doing my first build and I was wondering what everyone's expierence is with the YHM Customizable Free Float Handguard.  Basically I like that i can add rails to certain sections, specifically a full length rail to the top and a 3" to the bottom leaving the sides smooth for grip. Im looking to install the "Specter" length on my carbine which will allow the covering of the low profile gas block.  I like the idea that you can add or subtract but I'm just not sure how this is for vibration or a lateral force on a foregrip compared to built in rails by machining.  Please chime in if you have expierence or are running this setup currently.  My other option was the YHM "Smooth" Free Float Handguard which have the rails machined in.

I've installed a few on customer's rifles, and have heard no complaints.

Check out the Apex rails. They use a standard barrel nut
I can include a pic of all 3 lengths, on my .308 rifles. The same rail system works on 5.56, just the clamp aroung the barrel nut is different.
I have their Carbine, Rifle, and the new 15" rail.

I have a smooth on my RRA 16" varmint and haven't had any problems with the rails at all. I would suggest that you use locktite for the screws as i didn't and lost one on a coyote hunt and the rail was swinging around with my bi-pod dragging in the grass and sagebrush.

I have 3 if the customizable one.  I enjoy them a lot. They are solid on the rifle.  I just changed from a carbine length to a rifle length on my 16" build.  I have swapped rails around often trying to find the set up I like.  I added a flash light last week.  I will get some photos and upload them so you can see it.

I painted them to match the Magpul FDE

I have cut some of the longer rails to get the correct length.

Thanks guys, the other one ive been looking at is the midwest industries free float ss. Has a machined top rail but can add to the sides and bottom. Really i just want a bottom rail close to the mag well for a foregrip

Check out the customizable apex handguards. I own the mid length and rifle length handguards and I really like them.

I just finished a build with the rifle length. I love it. It feels nice, great grip, very solid and very nice finish. Not to mention a good price too.
