| sooo many options out there, need to decide what to do here. I ordered a 14.5" lightweight barrel for my lightweight build and now need to pin on something. any suggestions? I hear there is no real perfect hybrid between brakes and flash hiders, am very interested though in the weights of each different model-what is lightest? what is most functional? help! |
| IMHO, there is no reason for a muzzle brake on a 5.56 semi-auto AR. It will just make it louder to shoot. For flash suppression, the Blackout, Votex, and Phantom all do a good job. SInce it is permanent, you might cosnider a supressor mount/flash hider. It will give you the ability to add a supressor if you ever decide to go that route. I have the AAC Blackout mounted on my 14.5" Noveske. It is a great flash hider, and gives me the option to add a supressor in the future. |
| First you need to ask yourself, what is your intented use. Is it for home defense, plinking, professional use? Brakes might help you in controlling your muzzle rise but might be an annoyance to those around you; they also produce alot of flash. Of course a hybrid brake like the Rainier Arms XTC might help, but it is all a compromise. An extended A2 is lightweight and should be just fine if you are just starting out with the AR15 platform. |

3 gun competition or similar = brake. I run a SJC Titan for 3 gun. The gun has as little recoil as my M&P15-22. Follow up shots are very easy.
All others FH. I cannot think of any reason to use a brake for any practical use and they are very loud. Anyone next to you at a covered range will hate you. When i have shot my 3 gun AR at a covered range, i have to use ear plugs and ear muffs. |
