So I have had my rifle built for a few years now, and have upgraded almost everything to my exact liking. Now it all comes down to one final part and I will call my rifle done, the trigger.  Everything works exceptionally well on my rifle, and is solid for years of hard abuse, but I really want to get rid of the little bit of creep I have in my trigger assembly.  I am hoping for some suggestions on a good trigger/hammer kit, that will give me a great upgrade and hopefully remove the creep. There is just so many kits available, and I don't really have the cash to be trying out different kits, so I hoped I could get some input and see what some of you might recommend.  Which kits do you guys like?  Why?

P.S. My LPK is a DPMS kit (whats left of it anyway), just for reference.  Thanks guys!

I have a 4lb Timney trigger assembly and I love it!

Fryer:  I have a Geissele SSA-E trigger in my lower, a real nice non-adjustable 2-stage with a 3.5 lb total letoff weight and no appreciable creep on the 2nd stage.  It bulletproof, absolutely reliable, no doubling and will last a lifetime.  Cost was about $200.  In retrospect, I should have popped for the extra $80 and bought Geissele's Hi-Speed Match model, a similar 2-stage but fully adjustable.  It has the same reliablility but is able to adjust the total letoff weight down to about 2 lb, the sweet spot, IMO.

If you want a single stage trigger, you should do some online research because each make is slightly different.  JP Rifles' top of the line adjustable gets rave reviews.  Be aware that some of the 3-gun variety of triggers don't really have a crisp letoff.  Instead they roll off sort of like the GI trigger, but with very short take up and reset, designed for fast double taps on targets.  Good luck - CW

I like the JP single stage.  Be sure and get the whole fire control group.  Available in two trigger pull weights.

x2 on the SSA-E trigger... I just picked up on on sale from PSA and I really dont know why I waited so long.  Took it to the range this past weekend and just fell in love with shooting all over again!

JP EZ trigger - zero creep, shortest reset, and true crisp clean break.  Comparing side by side with the Timney I have, my JP is by far much better.  Get the whole set up - trigger and speed hammer.  I wouldn't go any lighter than using the yellow trigger spring and the red hammer spring - should come out to 4.5#.  I have this setup in my 3gun rifle and absolutely love it.  Just take your time making the adjustments to the set screws so you get it just how you want it.  Play around with it first too to get the idea of what each one will do.

Geisseles are very smooth triggers but they are 2-stage so instead of creep you get very smooth take up for a short distance and then depending on the model resistance will fall off with a clean break or come to a slight increase and then a clean break.

There have been a couple people mentioning problems with Timney's in their ARs lately.  I've heard similar issues in the past too and mentioned that the AR wasn't designed for such drop in triggers or the trigger wasn't designed for an AR originally.  How true that is idk.

ETA - cheap trick is to put a set screw in the pistol grip hole from the top to push up on the back of the trigger tail just a little.  Then add JP fcg springs.  Gets rid of creep and reduce pull weight.

ALG

Cost effective. Reliable design. Crisp. Heavy enough for serious use, but light (crisp) enough for great accuracy potential.

I have the nickle ALG. Cost $60 IIRC. My friend has a geissle combat? (IIRC) trigger. Its nice, but the lack of trigger weight would make me nervous if i ever had to use it in a stressful situation. I am a firm (no pun intended) that under stress you'll push more on the trigger than you intend to just from being tense.

Not even close.  I recently purchased an ACT to give it a shot since everyone raves about them.  Better than most stock triggers yes by a little bit but not even close to anything mentioned above.  Infact, mine has inconsistent creep, sometimes it is there and other times it is not.  Somebody posted to call ALG about the issues and have not heard back from them after 2 weeks and 2 phone calls.

Thanks for the responses guys. I've been leaning heavily towards the SSA trigger group, just wanted some supporting opinions before I "pulled the trigger"    My two biggest things I look for in a trigger group are; a short and positive reset, and a crisp and creep-free release. I'm not overly concerned with trigger pull weight, but it seems like what I keep reading about the SSA is what I am looking for out of my trigger group.

What it sounds like you want is not an SSA but a single-stage.  The SSA is a two-stage, it will have take up before the hammer goes and will have a longer trigger travel than what JP is capable of.

Yeah you're right, I was looking at that completely backwards.  That's what I get for staying up so late.....
