So I'm new to the AR15 modifying hobby but I have done quite a bit of reading on this site and elsewhere and wanted to give it a try to see if I could do it.
The rifle I own I bought from Windham Weaponry, it's the AR15 SRC, it has a picatinny fsb instead of the A2 sight. Living in MA I can't remove the muzzle break, so my main concern is regarding replacing the standard handguards with the OMEGA X RAIL 12.0 FSP, since I want to avoid having to remove the picatinny FSB (so just go around it instead), this rail was also a recommendation from daniel defense after I told them my situation. Assuming all I have to do is remove the delta ring and the spring after by cutting through both with a dremel, I want to make sure I have the right dremel tool (I did look on here and thought I picked one that will work) but I'm not sure if its the right size or strength, it's a 16,000 RPM Chicago Electric Power Tools Hobby Dremel, it came in some sort of hobby accessories kit, but now I'm thinking it's too small. Assuming I'm able to get that far.. after putting the new rail system on, I have the proper torque wrench and the wrench that DD gave me but my question about the tightening of the new barrel nut is when do I stop tightening it on the dpms clamp? I'm going to guess it will be snug. Any advice or maybe something I missed while reading this site would be greatly appreciated, because I'd like to be able to do it myself for the feeling of accomplishment alone. |

Not familiar with that rail and connecting to the web through a phone right now so to slow to look up all the specs but.... If you are talking about installing a handguard with a proprietary barrel nut you will have to remove your gas block and flash hider. You will not have to dremmel off the delta ring and spring because they can be removed after the original barrel nut is removed. They are held in place by a snap ring behind the barrel nut.

Thanks for the response, Problem is to be Mass compliant they welded the muzzle break on the front. The guy from DD seemed to think if I got this rail I wouldn't need to remove the fsb. |

"This two piece free float rail system secures to a proprietary barrel nut with our AR15 Lite Rail Barrel Nut Wrench so initial gunsmithing is required for installation." Your barrel nut will need to be replaced with the nut in the kit. The gas block will need to be removed from the barrel. |

split the gas block off with a dremel cutoff wheel....go slow and careful and you won't mar the finish. Then you can remove the barrel and the barrel nut. YHM makes a split two piece gas block. Install propriatery barrel nut then YHM gas block and gas tube. Install mid length free float rail to cover gas block and viola.....just get a front sight that is designed for rail mounting.
Also if it is blind pinned and welded, it really isn't that difficult to remove and replace if you have a milling machine and some small carbide endmills. I did two last week for an LEO that is local as he wanted to replace the stock handguards on a 14.5 barreled uppers with a LaRue Tactical free float rails. Be glad to help if you were closer.....
