I'm trying to tighten the barrel nut on my MA Ten. I am installing a Troy BattleRail TRX fore end. The Spikes barrel wrench won't grab the notches in the nut. What am I doing wrong?

Doesn't that rail have a proprietary barrel nut that requires the proprietary barrel nut wrench from Troy? Your Spikes wrench won't work if that's the case.

Not for the 308, no.

Unless I'm confused your Spikes wrench will not work with a .308 barrel nut anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong-I'm an AR15 guy & not a .308 AR guy. According to Troy's web site you need their special barrel nut wrench for that particular rail depending on whether you have the Armalite or DPMS barrel nut.

I believe the 308 barrel nut is slightly larger than the 223. I bought This. It worked well. It is double sided and the reviews say it works for Troy, DPMS and the standard barrel nut.

I ended up taking a dremel to the wrench to open up the opening a bit to let it fit over the chamber part of the barrel. Once I did, it worked like a charm. It was a shame to dremel such a nice barrel wrench though...
