Hey everyone. Noob here, bought me a Stag stripped lower few days ago on the thought I could build a nice rifle fairly easily by going that route instead of just picking one of the shelf. After scouring through I'd say easily 20 pages and re-reading several topics, HOLY SHIT! Y'all have me lost, confused, excited, hopeful for a quick build so I can go shoot, and then lost and confused again.Ive figured out most of the acronyms y'all use, but its a work in progress. Now, I only really want a basic rifle. Magpul furniture, mbus front and rear flip up sights and a forward drop grip. I plan on it riding with me everywhere in its case with the occasional hunt and shoot stuff up excursions. I had settled on a jp single stage trigger, which I was advised a 2 stage probably isnt the best otion for me, but it only comes with the trigger. Ive seen several lower kits such as the RRA kit from rainier arms, but im wondering should I spend the bucks on high quality internals or hold back a hair? I ask because although from reading and learning on here, LaRue is the man, although I didn't see an octagonal upper like the ones from seekins or mega. I like that style from a purely asthetics view point. These questions stem from the fact that I have never owned an AR much less attempted to build one, so Im not sure of exactly which parts I do and do not really need. I have other questions that I'll ask later, but I dont want to lose my head nor my focus. FOCUS! Thanks all.

Mostly the biggest issue between the lower kits are the triggers, since you plan on replacing it anyways look for one without the fire control group (FCG).

There's other small difference like some use spring pins instead of roll pins for the bolt catch, I've never seen a spring pin lower parts kit (LPK) and I've used a couple.

Joebob's has a JP LPK without fire control group for like $38 and palmetto state armory has one for $35.

Some places, like palmetto state armory (PSA) offer lower build kits with the MOE furniture, so you don't have to replace what you bought already.  Then all you have to do is get an upper.

I've included some acronyms in parenthesis since you mentioned having trouble getting them all straight

This has a lot of great information, thank you! I almost spent the night on the couch again by staying up and reading this.

Ha! I appreciate it. Where can I find joebob's website? Most are easy thanks to the toolbars top and bottom on here, and the rest I can generally find with google.

Joe Bob Outfitters

I am in the process a build similar to what you are talking about I am probably going to keep the standard fire control group (FCG) in this one.

I have used the JP lower parts kits without the FCG and installed the JP triggers and speed hammers I have no complaints from them.  Good luck with your build they are addicting.
