The only 5.56 upper I have is a DPMS M4 style. About the best I can get out of it is 1.5 - 1.75" groups @ 100 yards. I'm thinking about buying a RRA 20" stainless varmint upper. I have an RRA lower with a NM trigger that I'm not using now. I'm not looking for bench rest accuracy but I would like something that will group under 1 MOA with the right ammo. Would this get it done? (My funds are a little limited)

Thanks,
Tom

I will give a plug for the J&T Varmint uppers. I posted some pics of my groups up in their industry forum. RRA is prob gtg too. Be warned, you probably will need to handload to get your best accuracy.

What are  you using, iron sights or an optic? If you're using an optic, which optic? A magnified optic should give you better potential for accuracy. Tighter groups are also due to practicing the fundamentals as well. Basically the most important is the shooter (fundamentals), then comes the barrel and the trigger.

I have a 16" Rock River and it is damn accurate even using cheap ass Wolf ammo. I don't think you will be let down by the performance of a Rock River barrel. Personally I'd consider assembling your own upper using whatever barrel you want and any hand guard you want. While I like Rock River's barrel ... I don't really love their hand guard options. Rainier Arms has a nice selection of barrels.

I have a Bushmaster Varminter with a 24" barrel and it shoots very accurately. I don't shoot in competitions or anything, which is why I'm still using Wolf but if a varminter is what you're after then yeah ... a longer barrel is typically recommended.
