I'm in SE Wisconsin, and have been looking around for an ar lower, but can't find any for a decent price! So far I've looked at shorty's, which has spikes lowers for around 200, which is a lot more than I've seen them in the past on sites like aim. Shorty's transfer fee is 75 dollars.

I've been looking at a Rainier Arms lower, which are 135 on their site, but most of the shops near me charge 50+ for a transfer, which will bring me closer to just spending 200 on a lower that's already in a store.

Anyone know any places around me that do transfers for less than 50?

Those fees are brutal.
You might be able to find a friendly FFL on one of the Wisconsin FFL lists.
Here are a few search hits to look over

A lot of places are out of stock at the moment. Here's a Spike's stripped lower for $79.95

AimSurplus is out of stock.
Palmetto State Armory is out of stock.

Have you checked your local shops to see they have stripped lower receivers in stock? Call around. Drive far if need be, but you're bound to find a shop within a reasonable distance that has at least one stripped lower.

I can't help with the fees, but http://www.wideners.com/ has LRB stripped lowers for $82.  I picked one up last week, along with the LRB upper.  They are outstanding.  LRB isn't well known, but they do make top quality M14/M21s.

Try asking in your hometown forum. I'm sure somebody knows someone that won't hit you with that kind of fee.

Just order one and have it transfered to http://www.gunbroker.com/FFL/SearchForFFL.aspx?st=State&sv=WI

Looking at your choices for FFLs...

I live in IL and I guess I could consider myself lucky I have about 4 FFLs within 5 miles that do transfers for $20.  I've never considered myself lucky to live here but damn, you don't have very many good choices

Thanks for the help guys, after a long while searching I found out that MI carries lowers, I just thought they made rails and stuff. Picked up a stripped CMMG MK-4 lower on Monday. Ordered a PSA ACS-L lower build kit and some tools today.. its coming together! I'll probably post some pics when the lower is all done.

I've read that all forged lowers are pretty much the same, and even though I wanted to get a BCM complete lower, I couldn't really see spending 375+replacing the stock with a magpul one. The upper will be all BCM.

I was going to mention MI (live right down the road), they just got lowers in stock again.   I know Fletchers can order DPMS lowers and they charge the minimum fee for registration.  They are also starting to carry accessories and what not for AR's (A little behind the market).

Just for future reference- you can get a BCM blemished lower with a buffer tube but no stock for $285.
