I have a Burris PEPR QD Mount 30mm coming tomorrow. Seems like a very good mount for the money, but the thing that gets me is its bulk and weight. I was looking to slim it up some with the use of my drill press, files and dremal tool. Also adding a hole in the underside of the mount for an extra cr2032, throwing some silver water proof tape over it. Let me know what you thing of this idea.

Cut the hole for the CR 2032 on the underside here, just go deep nuf for the bat to fit, then cover it in silver metal tape.

Cut all the way threw the middle front section of the mount, leaving a little at the very front if need be, round the corners off inside. Then drill threw the mounting rings to reduce some bulk. If I get the flat rings, I may just go threw the bottom half.

I may or may not do this, just shave into the sides a hair. nothing drastic at all, don't want to compromise the mount to much.

Sounds like it would look pretty cool. Did your mount not come with the smooth tops, only the ones with the rails? That right away could lighten it up some and would look good with the holes drilled.

Looking forward to some after pics!

Good Luck!

Battery storage idea is cool.
A back plate from a retired wrist watch might make a serviceable, water tight cover.

Not a fan of the rails on the REPR....I would mill those 100% off.

Milling depressions on the sides would look OEM if the cuts were parallel to the existing lines with a reasonable border left intact.
