| I have a RRA lightweight A2 middy. I was you going to go with a low profile lightweight gas block, a troy VTAC handguard and if I can flute the barrel I'll do that too. Opinions on this setup? I need light weight |

If you already have a lightweight profile barrel then I would be a bit cautious about fluting it. You could get it so thin that the barrel could rupture. Remember that there is up to about 55,000 psi inside that tube when fired with a hot round. I would suggest that you only consider fluting it ahead of the gas block / FSB. Once the bullet gets into that area, the pressure in the barrel has dropped to around 20,000 psi. A somewhat safer level for a really thin-walled barrel.
Why don't you just build something with a 10" light profile barrel and SBR the thing? Can't get much lighter than that. |
| If you were to flute a LW profile barrel properly, you might be lucky to loose an additional 3 oz or so from the existing barrel. Cost to flute your barrel is also a consideration. Is it really worth an additional $100-150 to pick up a few ounces? Good luck on your build. |
