Hey all,
Long time lurker, finally hopping into the AR game. With the help of a local guy rather familiar with the AR world (who will be helping me put the upper together) I'll be compiling the following list of parts over the next few months (hopefully) and putting my first AR together. Here's my plan - feel free to point out what you would change (it doesn't mean I'd do the same). Stripped lower from a local shop - I have this in hand already - early reports have these being in spec and working out just fine, if i run into a problem I'll just grab a simple PSA stripped lower or something from AIM Stag LPK Magpul MOE Fixed stock - not available yet - hopefully soon Magpul trigger guard stag stripped A3 upper receiver PSA 14.7" LW barrel - ordered already pws FC556 stag BCG YHM flip up front sight/gas block mid length gas tube Samson 9EX Handguard BCM gunfighter Charging Handle Stag A3 carry handle/rear sight - I love the look of carry handle/rear sight combos. With a bit of NYS compliance work that's what I'm going with. I'll be around as the build comes along with pictures. |

the pws FC556 is marketed as a "flash suppressing compensator" I don't know how much of a grey area that is in NY. Here in MA I wouldn't put one on one of my guns and try to defend myself saying its not a flash hider. Just my 2 cents. Everything else sounds good though.

Yeah they're as legit as anything can be in NY when it comes to ban compliance. Pretty commonly seen around. Can't wait to get it all and finish it up ! |

Sweet! You're well on your way.
I've never owner an "off the rack" AR, all of mine hhave been builds, and as you may have guessed it, I lurked here for a few years (2001) before jumping into ARs head first in 2004. As you've noticed, there are MANY builders on this site, that said, all can relate to the satisfaction of building your own rifle that is all "you". You've got good times ahead, and some boat loads of cash that will be spent on ammo. Welcome to the addiction. |

I am still waiting on my preorder for the Magpul fixed stock. In the mean time I grabbed a VLTOR ARM from their clearance section. It's FDE - so I'll Krylon it flat black.
I don't expect it to match perfectly, but the rest of my parts should be here next week. I don't want to have the stock being the only thing holding me up. Especially with no set release date. The price is right on the clearance VLTOR and it'll be fine for me for now. |

Everything else sounds good though. it would certainly act as more of a flash suppressor than compensator by the looks of it. that thing is dangerously close to being a flash suppressor. although it's "legal", there is still the chance that you get questioned. I would get a copy of the BATFE letter that states its good to go. |

That is an interesting look. The stock is fugly yet cool looking at the same time. I actually had that VLTOR suggested to me as I was picking parts and downright rejected it as I HATED the look. But as I was in a pinch and it was cheap I went for it for now. Anddd it's growing on me. I just want it to be black (time for some Krylon!!) |
