Ok, maybe I'm a little crazy for even wanting to try this but...I want to get one of those New Frontier Armory polymer lowers LW-15 and mate it with a JP Enterprises 18" barrel kit.  This will be my first build and my first AR rifle.  One reason for doing this is to keep the total cost down, I'll be blowing most of the allotted budget on the barrel kit.  My concern is what upper to use, obviously it will have to be cheap, but I'm looking more for the absolute lightest weight possible.  So here's what I have in mind total for the build:

Complete LW-15 lower:  $99

JP Barrel 18" Kit : $639 (know any cheaper place than direct?)

Titan Compensator: $90 (may have to wait for this depending on the upper price)

Can I still keep this around $900 or lower?  I still need sites and mags.  Or maybe you guys could suggest a different barrel that's just as good?  Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

you'd still need an upper receiver and handgaurds with that too.
and if your going as light as possible get a 16" or 14.5" lightweight profile
maybe something like this

plenty of other offerings out there that would get you closer to your goal.
or maybe this and then just get an aluminum lower

i dunno keep digging

Not sure what the jp 18" barrel it is, but you could a light weight upper for alot less than that.

$100 m4 16 barrel
$100 upper
$100 bcg
$100-$150 on small parts. Charging handle, gas tube, hand guards, ect
$99 poly lower

Then pick your rear sight, and buy mags.

I have found that just about any upper you put on a polymer lower will be nose heavy.
I have found this link to an X-treme lightweight pencil upper & by the looks of it this may be the one I go with next.

I am doing two lightweight builds on the NFA polymer lower.  I am very impressed with it so far and have used both of them on other uppers from .22LR to .458 SOCOM with zero problems.  I did not care for the way the polymer trigger sounds, and it was heavy at 5 3/4 pounds, not 4.5 pounds as they said it was, so I did switch it out to a standard trigger. The factory trigger is very crisp though with zero creep or over travel.  As with all their parts, any part you don't like can be switched out to a standard milspec part.  The bolt catch is steel already, not polymer as many have said, and the trigger/hammer pins are standard steel small size pins, not oversized plastic pins.  Lots of nay-sayers like to say it is a rebranded Plum Crazy, and while it may look almost identical, from what NFA says it uses a different polymer blend and from what I can tell it seems like it is going to hold up just fine.  The only real criticism I have is the trigger guard.  IMO they should have done a replaceable one or a MagPul type trigger guard.  If you are not afraid to use a saw and file, you can fit a Stark grip or old MagPul grip with the trigger guard built in just fine.  It takes a couple of hours but it can be done.
