I bought a RRA operator about a year ago as my first AR and now wish I had just built my own.

Oh well, moving on.

I'd like to switch out the half quad rail with something lighter and longer like a Troy FF alpha rail.  I will need a new gas block (and thus new front sight), correct?  I havent looked at it, but it the old handguard tough to get off?  Is it a straight replacement with the mounting the same between the two?

Thanks guys...

Yeah, your going to need another low pro gas block if your going to a longer rail to fit under the rail.

The uninstall of your current setup is pretty straight forward though. Just remove the gas block, it's a clamp on so it's easily removed. Then loosen the jam nut with a flat head screw driver or very small hobby chisel seated in the notches. Then just unscrew the rail and all that will be left is the threaded barrel nut. That probably will need to be replaced though with the Troy nut, I'm not sure if they are compatible with each other but maybe someone else can speak to that.

Do you have the tools needed to remove and install a barrel nut?

+1 But instead of using a screwdriver or chisel, get a spanner wrench to remove the jam nut so you can re-sell it.

A strap wrench does a good job without scratching things up.

Thanks guys- I'm going to keep my eye out for a good deal on a light handguard and low profile gas block.  Sounds like I can do the replacement myself with the tools I have.
