I am currently building my first AR and I was wondering the pros/cons with the AMBI selector versus just the one sided.

Thanks

The USGI works as designed for me.
I'm right-handed and manipulate it with my right thumb.

If I was left-handed I would probably like the ambi.

Some don’t fit well.
Some right handed shooters find they are in the way.
It is kind of expensive, but there is one that uses a short lever on the weak hand side.

I am left handed and love my BADD-ASS
It allows you to choose from multiple levers, there are 6 right now and they are coming out with another soon. I chose the regular lever for the right side and the long thin for the left side. I can comfortably use the selector without right handed people having interference.

I am in the middle of a build using the Spikes ELPK, so I might buy my next BAD-ASS from them since I can get it NiB coated, just like my LPK.

use some blue lock tight in the screw, mine rattled loose after 600rds. although it did not fall off, it was annoying. an ez fix.

I'm a lefty. I've tried nearly all of the ambi's available. My own personal preference is the Stag lefty only. Not only does it do what I want it to do, it doesn't cost a damn fortune.

Edited to say: Lefty selector only on a righty upper. I'll never purchase a lefty upper. (and never is a very long time)

yeah, I'm not a lefty and they are friggin' expensive. So it's really a matter of preference- not so much a specific function?

What do you think of MAGPUL stuff?

Me too.

I use the Olympic Arms reversible safety. It is notched to work from either side. Works for me.

YMMV

this....i installed the BAD with the thin ambi side selector and took it off faster than i put it on....

i didn't like the way it felt under my trigger finger....felt unnatural....

YMMV

What do I think of Magpul stuff?

The only 5.56 mags I own are Magpul Pmags.

The Magpul BUIS are "okay" if you can't afford better.

Not a fan of the "bad" lever they market. (thought it was cool stuff for a brief period, thought better of it later)

I have Magpul trigger guards on a bunch of my lowers. (I don't use the roll pins they ship with them, they seem a bit oversized. spiral roll pins rock)

I've got a Magpul sticker on the back window of my truck.

I understand they have great customer support but I've never had a reason to required it.

Conclusion: I love most of the stuff they offer, but a few products appear to be a solution in search of a problem.

I think Magpul is ok in general.
The quality of their equipment is excellent in my experience.
