| The uppers I have been looking at have the std A2 flash hider. Assuming it's not perm'd, does it just unscrew? Are they typically loctited and is there a particular tool one should use to remove? |

The barrel is threaded. The flash hider screws on. They use a crush washer, not loctite. An open end wrench works to get it off. |

^^^yes.....but don't forget that the torque required to remove it, and certainly what's required to crush the new washer will require a barrel vice (soft jaws made from hardwood works).
I made my blocks by drilling a piece of wood to the barrel diameter, then saw it in half, then sand a bit more off with a bench type belt sander. Have heard of people just holding the rifle between the knees, but mine were too tight for that (not to mention you are transmitting forces to the barrel nut). |

Mine is aluminum. I cut leather inserts to keep aluminum marks from smearing my barrel. If you don't mess it up you don't have to clean it! |

If the muzzle device has been put on to the normal 15 to 20 Ft. Lbs. of torque he will be OK without the barrel clamp.
If it's on with Rockset (or similar) a barrel clamp set up will be mandatory or the receiver/barrel pin will be permanently damaged. For a big, high torque war I would want to remove the gas tube as well. |
