I am trying to build a 18 or 20 inch ar. This will be my 3rd, but I am using a spikes lower for this build and I have no idea what kind of buffer tube to get. Got any idea?

First you have to decide on what kind of stock you want.
Adjustable, carbine type ?
Fixed, rifle type ?

I put together a 20" build and used a rifle buffer with an A2 fixed stock

I'm doing the same thing right now. I'm using one of my Spike's lowers for a rifle configuration build. I picked up an A1 length stock and going to order an A1 rifle tube with a JP spring and buffer.

OK, then the tube is pretty much pre-determined.
If you get into genuine Colt there is a choice between extruded or the stronger forged type.
The dimensioning is the same with the A2 buffer tubes. A2 uses a one size fits all buffer, as well.

The DPMS A2 kit is supposed to be good for an aftermarket A2 kit.
'bout the only DPMS part that I would entertain.

No, some are grey and some are black.
I think that the milspec stocks made from Zytel are more grey.
Many report that oiling or Armor-All will darken the stock.
Make sure you're not allergic to whatever you decide to use.

I bought a Rock River Entry stock and it had a grey-ish look to it.  I used rit dye and dyed it black and it took well and darkened up nicely.  Always an option.

I am leaning towards a A2 from  Midway USA since all of the ones on the EE are sold. I searched back a few pages and gave up. 55 isnt bad though.

The PRS uses a standard Rifle Extension and buffer/spring.

You would use the same tube that you would use for the A2 fixed stock, but don't use the endplate.
