So I'm another Rookie AR builder here and I had a few questions for anybody who is willing to help. I decided to use a Spikes Tactical standard LPK, when I opened the package all the parts were covered in a sticky oil and that didn't seem right to me that they were sticky so I talked with Spikes and they said to use the LPK as is or use a mild degreaser and whatever lube/oil I prefer. I'm just curious what you Veteran gun builders recommend doing and/or what kind of lube/oil I should use? Also another question I have is do I have to oil/lube the gun up upon building for the first time, I'm buying a complete upper and I didn't know if they come pre-lubed or If I should do it? That'ts all the questions for now, any and all advice is appreciated! Thanks and Happy Shootin!!!

Welcome.

I usually wipe down the LPK parts with some CLP and call it good.

As far as the upper, I give it a thorough cleaning and lube it with CLP.

Yep.  The sticky substance is just a lubricant for packing.  You can leave it or clean it off.

Go for it.

My AR's love oil. I always put a good coat of break free on my bolt carrier group before blasting some rounds through it. 600+ rounds through it...not a single jam.

I like assembly grease, but any kind of oil is good. Just put something on it.
