Anyone change out the ejection port cover on the Vltor MUR-1A upper? I have a Wilson Combat 6.8 SPC II marked cover that will help ID my new upper build and the finish is much better than the stock ejection covers that Vltor uses. I heard that it is just a matter of removing the pin, but want to confirm before screwing up my upper... I was told that there was a thread on this forum, but I was not able to find it when I searched...

Procedure should be the same either way. You're going to either have to remove the handguards and slide the ejection port cover pin forward, or you are going to have to remove the ejection port cover retaining ring with a pair of needle nose pliers and carefully slide the pin out of the rear. You'll have to move the ejection port cover upwards as your doing this to go under your forward assist. Be careful not to scratch your gun while you're doing this.
ETA #1: I just looked at pictures of the upper. You're probably right, it looks like they are going to have a different procedure for their uppers. ETA #2: Here's a link to something that may help you |

OK, I got it installed. See below the high-level instructions Vltor should have sent:
- Tap out two pins with punch. NOTE: 1.5-2" 3/16th punch will be needed for pin holding forward assist in place - Slide forward assist carrier down from the channel rails on side of reciever - Slide ejection port cover off and replace with new cover - Reset tension on ejection port spring and replace rod to original position - Reinstall forward assist carrier back into integrated channel rails - Replace the smaller pin into the slide and becareful not to go too deep so that it does not scrap bolt carrier assembly - Replace forward assist pin. NOTE: One might have to set the forward assist in place and hold it there using a small allen wrench and then drive the pin from the top in order to capture the forward assist properly within the carrier unit. |
