So I was looking at the stand in the AR-15.COM store, and thought "Man, I would love one of those... but I don't really have fifty bucks to burn right now."

What I do have however is some good ol' fashioned ingenuity to go along with my two-by-four scrap, hacksaw, palm sander and can of black spray paint....

Please pardon the (cellphone) picture quality.

Also thought I'd share a pic I took with my "real camera" the other night while I was doing some macro stuff. Tags were my Grandfathers who served in WWII. I'll probably keep an eye out for an appropriate era weapon to redo this picture with eventually.

I'll be glad to take some measurements for you... but to be quite honest, I "eyeballed" the whole thing and sanded it to fit.

But what the heck, might even be a fun opportunity to fire up MS Paint!

I was looking at the one at the store site. I made these and I only have about 35.00-40.00 in three of them. I used oak pre cut boards from lowes. I only had to use basic tools for the most part, but I did rotor the edges to make it look a little better for me.  I did have to give up a mag for each stand, I just cut the bottom of the magand used some car bondo to keep the bolts in place.

How stable is that with the small base?  Been thinking of making one of those out of some scrap 8/4 Bubinga wood I have in my shop.

Plastix makes a vice block and a block with a base plate. They are around $18-22. This will save time for making a stand. They also make some sweet multiple display stands. Even if you don't buy from them, go to their website and get some ideas. I think they make the one that is in the arf store.

Midway sells a similar stand on a tray/base.
