At first I was going to buy the Larue 5.56 OBR complete rifle. But after really thinking about it I thought I could build myself a really nice AR for the 2K price tag. Plus I liked the idea of being able to build my rifle from nothing. But now after pricing out what I plan on buying I will be around the 2.5K range. Is this a good idea or should I buy a complete rifle. I still want to proceed with my build, just wanted to get some input, here's whats coming.
Mega Billet Lower, $206 Mega Billet Monolithic Upper Rifle Length, $585 Rainier Arms UltraMatch .223 Wylde Barrel 18", $365 Rainier Arms Low Pro Match Grade Gas Block, $47 Fail Zero BCG, $250 Magpul UBR Stock, $250 Battle Comp 1.5 Flash Hider, $150 AR Gold Trigger, $279 Spikes Tactical Heavy Buffer, $30 I know there's more smaller stuff but that's the majority. Any input is greatly appreciated. |

Why the BC? Especially the 1.5? and also, why the FailZero BCG?
Not trying to be rude or anything. I honestly don't know. I'm still pretty green in the AR world. It sounds like a precision rig, so I don't see what the benefit of a brake is. And when I was searching for a BCG, I was told FailZero if I was going the SBR route. Just curious. Sounds like a nice build either way. |

Well, only you can decide if it's a good idea or not.
Based on your list of parts you'd have one heck of a rifle and definately out of a lot of members price range, or at least mine. For $2500 you have a rifle without any sights or optics. I can see by your taste in parts that you will easily add over $1000 for irons and an optic. $3500 and still going strong. Please post pics when your done. |
| Yeah, probably a little over kill. But I probably will not be the several gun ar owner. This will probably be it. So I wanted to build something a little on the higher end and be a bit more versatile gun. I am just a recreational shooter that will be shooting the 100-300yd range on average maybe more seldomly. Will probably be putting the Larue mounts with Trijicon 3-9x40 or 2.5-10x56 accupoint. Haven't decided yet. I don't have any experience with the Fail Zero BCG but have heard decent things about it. I haven't got my heart set on the battle comp flash hider, so that's open to whatever I find that I like. The flash hider will be more of a looks thing than performance for me. |

Here are some of the ways you could save some coin.
80 bucks going from Billet to forged on the Mega Lower. get a BCM BCG and forgo the Fail zero savings 115. AAC Black out opposed to the Battlecomp is another 80 dollars. So right there ther is a saving of 275 dollars. Parts of good quality and great functionality. It is also about wants and needs. If this is your one and only AR then sure go for the gusto. If I was gonna build one. 16" mid length barrel. pick your flavor Mega Lower forged. or Noveske Forged Gen 2 for a lower I am hooked on Vltor Upper Receivers. But after putting my hands on a Mega Monolithic Mi-Length I am a bit swayed. If I was to get a quad rail it would be a centurion arms to attach to the Vltor LPK is would be a WOA without a trigger and Handle Wilson TTU. Just a great single stage trigger. Miad Handle or a MOE by Magpul BADASS Ambi Selector |
| Thanks for the input, all good suggestions. Hey Striker, so you've actually had your hands on one of the Mega Monolithic's? How did you like it? I have been out of the AR game for a while and come across this and was quite amazed by LOOKING at it. Also I live in Washington State so supporting Mega wasn't a hard choice. |

I went with the Spike's Fail Zero coated BCG for $225 from AIM's The UBR from AIM's with the promo code is $200. and WOA barrel from Rainier for $290. |

OK. When I get my Mega Monolithic done I will be doing a Review of it here.
I got a Mega Forged lower recently needles to say it was a great lower at a reasonable price. Not your 59 dollar PSA's but reasonable and I loved it. Machined well. No flashing anywhere. anodized nicely. I got to thinking a Monlithic would be nice. Well I waited for them to be in stock again. I initially was going to make a piston setup but decided against it. Ordered a Mid Monolithic and I got it and it is light and strong. It just might be me but it feels completely different than the Vltor/DD lite rail set ups I have. Seem more solid... well it is one piece but just feels different. It is quickly becoming my favorite build without it being fired. I am using a Noveske N4 barrel so it should be accurate. The only negative I see is not being able to pin the FSB. I have the proper dimple jig and the a proper Low Pro gas block to go under it. If I use rock set on the gas block screws I think I should be ok. Ok other negative. I could have bought a Vltor upper and a 10 inch rail for about for about 120 less but i have been there and done that so I wanted something different. |

If you are going to spend that amount of money on the BCG and the Barrel, I would buy a MATCH pair to make the rifle as accurate as possible. You are so over the top with all items...Why not go that extra $50.
Good luck with this build. I agree with the comments on the $3500. Also, I have to laugh at the I will only build one. Again, good luck with that one too. |

Quoted: Quoted: get the larue what are you thinking I gotta agree with DanTSX here on this one, get the LaRue OBR in 5.56 and save $500 and get a kick asswarranty in case something goes wrong... put the saved $500 towards the optic fund and get some good glass. Thisx100,000,000 Plus - Larue will send you some really cool bumper stickers, some dillo dust, and a dillo! Hell, who knows what they'll send? I got all that from just ordering one of their mounts!

| I get all my mounts and optics from Larue. If I wasn't so into building my own they would be one of the companies that I would consider for a complete rifle. I have talked to them on a couple of points of advice and their customer service on the issue was fantastic. I tend to spend my money on companies that continue to care about their customers |
